The hostel is OK, however has a specific atmosphere that may not suit everyone. The cleanliness leaves unfortunately A LOT to be desired. Yet in terms of partying it's definitely one of the best ones. Still remeber the caipirinhas....

Books would have to be one of my favourite hostels (and I have stayed in a lot). The atmosphere is great and really social, also the bar is fun times. The staff are really helpful. I am going back there for sure for World Cup.

I've travelled all over the world and stayed in many Hostels, Books has to be the best all round Hostel I've ever stayed in along side Flash Packers in Noosa Australia. Books has more charm, character and buzz than anywhere else! definitely stay here!

The hostel has a really good atmosphere and a very nice bar with people who loves partying. Of course, that´s great. BUT, if I decide to go to bed early and doesn´t want to party, it doesn´t mean that I am sad or lonely. It was very nice of the staff to ask me if I was ok, but it just got too much. And it is not easy to sleep when the windows in the dorm are open to the bar with loud music that plays until around 12. But otherwise I liked the hostel very much.

Sorry you didn't manage to sleep, we try our best to take people out once the bar closes, unfortunally sometimes it takes a little bit longer.

My second time to Rio and my second time staying in Books hostel. It's one of my favorite hostels and i've met great people working and staying there. I made the mistake of changing locations for Carnaval to nearer the beach when in fact, the Caranval atmosphere remains in Lapa- i spent most of my time going back to Books. It's located right near all the bars you could ever want (aswell as the awesome hostel bar), crazy street parties, the Lapa arches, Selaron steps and the metro. Stay here!

No ar conditioner in my room as advertised. One of the days that I stayed there the water ran out. Toilets need more cleaning.

Owner Comment (Show)
We never advertised we have AC in all the rooms. First point. Anyway, we are working for have it next year. The heat is really unhuman and also it is more confortable to sleep with the windows closed. About the water ran out, I wish I could do something about it, unfortunally I'm not God, or Moises or the CEO from CEDAE (The water suply company). I did what I could. Toilets really needs more cleaning. I'm looking the best way of doing it. Unfortunally this is a estructural problem, I have cleaners, we clean it often, but we need to improve the estructure to keep it clean. Will dol it next May. Sorry if you didn't have a good time, wish to you good luck with the exam you came for.

I adored this hostel -- the best I've ever stayed at, bar none. the staff are completely amazing -- welcoming, helpful, friendly. the bar area is so open and social, the caipirinhas are cheap and strong, the facilities are all they need to be. I'd recommend this hostel to anybody who wants to have a great time in Rio, and in a central location.

I travelled in South America for 7 months and Books was my favourite hostel of them all. I liked it so much I went back - twice! There's a great atmosphere. You meet very sociable travellers and it's easy to get a group together to go sightseeing or out in the evening. Graffiti and quirky decorations really add to the character of the place. The location is handy for nightlife and the centre, and bus and metro links are good too. The staff are really friendly and multilingual. Can't fault it!

Excellent hostel! eally laid back atmosphere with friendly staff, while I was there it was rainy so everyone just hung out in the common space together. The bar in the evening is really nice to be able to have that experience in a safe environment. The only downside is that during bar hours (7-11pm) there's music playing. If you plan on sleeping early this might not be the best. I did feel very comfortable and safe at this hostel, which was nice

The hostel has a good breakfast, the bathrooms always clean. The bar at night is a big plus to socialize and crew is very friendly and most of them talks english, spanish, german, etc. The only problem that is located 30/45 minutes on bus from the beach but I would go back if I return to Rio.

Great hostel in the heart of Lapa. Definitely a party hostel, but what else would someone want in Rio? Close proximity to street parties in the area and easy public transport to the beaches make for an ideal location. Dorms and bathrooms were very clean and the staff was awesome. I would never stay anywhere else in Rio.

Had such a great stay at books hostel. The staff spoke amazing english, were so helpful and friendly. The toilets and rooms were cleaned every morning and the breakfast was great. It was also great fun in the evenings as there was a bar and everyone was really social. Recommend to anyone !

Really good to have fun and get to know people! Not good if you need to have a good rest or wake up in the morning! There's a bar at first floor working every day!

This was one of the best hostels I ever stayed in. For sure! Staff was great, the bathrooms were clean even during the night and dawn, the location couldn't be better. The commom area was the best! Great bar with good prices, wonderful to make new friends! You have to spend time there before going to the night on Lapa. For sure I'll stay there again, and I'm already missing everything and everybody and my vacations there...

Books hostel is perfectly located between Santa Teresa and Lapa. It's a nice place where you can meet great people. However, the place is not the cleanest. There are tons of showers. In most rooms there is no AC and it is sometimes a little hard to sleep with all the noise coming from the street. Breakfast is just great. Staff is usually very nice. For the price, books is worth it.

The staff was friendly and very helpful with tips on where to visit in Rio. At night, this is a great place to party as it is located in an area very near to street parties and bars and the common areas were packed. As a result, it can be a bit loud. Excellent breakfast!

We only came to Rio for 2 weeks and I just want to say thanks to Felipe and the rest for making us feel at home so far away from home. I can't begin to describe how amazing they were, always happy to go out and show us around and made us feel SAFE. We stayed for a few days then went to Ilha Grande and when returned went to a hostel in Copacabana just to CRY FOR THE MISTAKE and come straight back to Books family. If you stay in the smaller rooms then you don't hear the partying and can rest :)
