This is the first Hostel i have stayed in and it was wonderful! the staff there are outstanding! Although there were a lot of french travelers there the language barrier wasn't too bad. I wish I could have stayed at this hostel longer just to be around the people! I would recommend this hostel to anyone who is backpacking and is okay with a bit of a walking. The nearest store is a 15 min walk but it's not too bad.

If you are French, it's the place to be! But even me from another nation can't say something bad and would stay here again.

Not as close to the CBD as lead to believe in the ad. Everything was cleaned daily. Bed mattresses were not the greatest. The 50 cent charge for a 6 min showers was ok, but the payment box was outside making it a bit annoying if you needed to extend your time.

Not need long commentary, after eight months traveling around the world, 80 hostels, I felt at home on arrival , and especially the days that followed it. Honest, simple, practical, responsible, friendly and even more familly ... it does not need more a traveler has to be happy. and if you have the chance to meet David or Eve, they surely will mark yours traveling ;-) objectively... simply the best place to start your trip or your life in NEW ZEALAND.

Borders Beyond is a great friendly, homely hostel that I would recommend to those wanting a chilled out comfy stay. The staff were very helpful with local knowledge and more than happy to share some good spots.I felt really at home as they remembered my name and often checked in with me to see how I was enjoying Auckland. Great tv area to share with other backpackers, Internet was fast and reliable, showers/toilets very clean, paying 50cents wasn't a big deal. Will definately go back :)

Stayed here in late December 2011 and promised staff I would write a review in thanks... Apologies that it's taken me 5 months! My bag got behind me coming in from Thailand, and I was in Auckland two days with next to nothing until it caught up. I got caught in the rain in the rather flimsy clothing I had on me, and the German couple that was looking after the place while the owner was on holiday lent whatever I needed to get warm and dry. location is out of the way, but staff makes up for it!

All good. I've been here before when i arrived in NZ. They upgraded the Hostel with a nice new back area which is good to have some drinks or to chill when its raining. I can still recommend it.
