Stayed during Carnival so paid a lot but did not receive services to match! Only keen if they get a commission or is a quick answer so i think my carnival$ could have better spent in a place that respected that i was a stranger in their city during a busy time! Laundry broken and no help to deal with this issue during the carnival when most services closed.Nice area but have to rely on transport. Beds cosy but top dangerous - avoid. Matchbox room. Staff nice but Mariano grumpy in mornings. n

Botanic hostel is an average one. Price is more less similar to most other hostels in Rio. This was my third time staying at a hostel in Rio and Botanic atmosphere was the one I least enjoyed, wasn't so friendly. The kitchen is also a downpoint, it's quite small and gets pretty clogged if more than one person is using it. Location was good, not so far from the beach and in a quite safe area.

A very well located hostel. Quite a good value for Rio de Janeiro prices.

Good hostel if you want to rest, but with no soul. My only real complaint is about the shower that is really tidy and unconfortamble. I was in a mixed ensuite dorm and there wasn't space to change clothes.

Botanic hostel is very clean and safe. The beds are really good and the breakfast is excellent, with a choice of fruit, cereal, bread, cheese, ham (and toast is maker) and decent coffee. The location is fine - with easy bus access to anywhere in the city - but if you want to be next to the beach or in a parting hostel then try somewhere else. But if you want somewhere clean, safe and quiet, where you will meet really friendly Brazilians then this is the place for you.

Excellent and helpful staff and location is very secure. Although it is very accessible to alot of bus lines the property was farther then i expected from some of the sites i planned to visit. The room i stayed in had a very damp smell to it, upon looking around to the base of the rooms and bathrooms there was heavy mold issues which would explain the smell of the air. The shower was very small and the shower curtain had mildew on it which made me uncomfortable while cleaning.
