Upon arriving at this hostel after an overnight flight to Río there was no one answering the doorbell. In fact I do not believe the doorbell even worked. I tried calling the hostel but the woman only spoke Portuguese and refused to let me in. As I was standing stranded on the street with my heavy backpack trying to figure out my next move a woman came out and when I approached her she was hostile and again refused to acknowledge my reservation. This hostel looks like a prison from the outside.

This place felt like purgatory. Definitely the worst place I have ever stayed in. The only redeeming factor was maybe Alan, the one member of the staff.
Staff don't speak any English, makes everything difficult including how to ask basic questions about Rio and things you can do. Only one bathroom upstairs with toilet and 2 showers in the same room, toilet has no door so not one person can use the whole bathroom at a time.
