Very dirty. Does not have the youthful atmosphere because the facilities are so run down. Showers are very weak, close to unusable. Unforgivable mistake of checking a stranger into our room although all the beds are booked by my group. The manager is very sincere though therefore we let it go.
Staff did not communicate with each other. We were rudely awoken after arriving at 3am and ordered to pay within the hour even though we were staying for three nights and they had our passports. We were put in a 8 bed dorm and were the only people not living there, there was nowhere to put your stuff and you had to constantly step over stuff. The room was never cleaned properly, it was really warm, smelt awful and the bathroom was one of the worst I have seen after 2 months travelling.
Pool was lovely. Bathroom in the room was pretty dirty and the bed was rock hard but it was only a short walk to south land. Not a very social hostel either.
Cheap and cheerful. The bar is really cheap in the hostel and there is daily deals. They run a bus every hour into the city which is great
We specifically booked this hostel for the air con but in our room it was blowing out hot air! We asked if it was going to be fixed and were told it would be but it wasn't so it was unbearable to be in the room. Security is lax as you can access other rooms via the balcony. The room itself was clean but there was condom wrappers by the pool. The benches were very sticky to sit on and a guy passed out next to us (from alcohol). The transfer bus was useful although it wasn't around when we arrived
Atmosphere is relaxed, staff were friendly. There is a free pick-up to and from transit centre every hour. Close to Southbank. En-suite bathrooms were not cleaned 2 days in a row, no lockers in dorms.
The BBR needs a bit look after to improve services.

There was plenty to do withing the hostel which is always great if the weathers a bit gloomy. Having a fridge in your own room is very convenient !! You get your own ensuite and balcony which you wont get in a lot off hostels. There isnt a proper common room so it will take a time to get to know others in the hostel apart from your roommates. The courtesy bus was ideal as it meant we saved like 15-20 mins walking to the main streets of brisbane. The pool table should be cheaper.
3 of us stayed at the hostel for 5 nights, I can't think of one thing to complain about from the whole stay! All the staff were very friendly and fun! If I was ever to return to brisbane then I would definitely return to brisbane backpackers hostel.

Great location in West End, easy walking distance to South Bank and they also provide the shuttle into the city. Hostel completely lacked atmosphere though, everyone already seemed to know each other so it wasn't the easiest place to meet new people. Would be good if the hostel organised group activities each day. Reception staff were really helpful, especially with all my daily requests for buses and directions. Fixed the shower the day after I reported it, which was a pretty good response.
