Great Location being above a bar but plan for a lot of stairs walking
Bru bar & hostel is nice, when I arrived there was live music and a lot of people in the bar, it was a warm welcome. The room was clean and big enough. The bathroom was clean and the breakfast was ok. The location is perfect, Cork is not that big.
It was a serviceable hostel. Nothing particularly bad but the building is old, so although the staff clean it everyday it is not in the greatest condition. There is a bar downstairs which didn't bother me, but it did bug a room mate, so if you want absolute quiet don't stay here. The one flaw i found was that the common room has no external window so you feel a little starved for air. Otherwise as i said a serviceable hostel 😊
Staff very friendly, cooking possibilty is great, but rooms are Very poorly equipped and if you are not interested in drinking you should perhaps choose another accomodation.

The hostel was okay, our room was really small though & there was no ac/fan in our room & since summertime that was more than unpleasant. The bar downstairs is a nice feature, it's quite expensive though & I personally didn't like the vibe of it but that might just be me. Small & decent breakfast which was fine. I only stayed for 2 nights so I was fine, can't really expect too much for that price in high season.
The first night the fire alarm went off at 2 am . No one from management told us it was ok to go back to sleep. The guy off reception was "twisted" drunk. Not sure if he was on or off work at that hour buy walking around up the stairs
The main thing to know is this is a bar. They had live music when we stayed there and it is loud and penetrates into the room, so if you are bothered by loud music and aren't going to bed late, the place is very nice.
The live musik is making fun. It is nice to sit around in the bar. The room has everything you need. You can cook your owne Dinner (if you buy most of the ingredients yourself). Wifi whoop. You can come and go however it will please you.

Good hostel. Comfortable beds, didn't hear the music from the bar in my room. Not the best wifi, but very nice stay!
Central, clean, super friendly staff... I forget her name, but one of the bartenders gave us great suggestions of places to go, helpful. The bar gets pretty lively at night so if you want to sleep, request a room further upstairs. Under bed lockers didn't work, only downside. Would definitely return to BruBar!
Very welcoming and good fun :)

Had a really pleasant stay here! Only downside was that the outlets in our room were in the opposite corner from the beds, and the storage cages in the rooms can't be locked (they have a free safety deposit for small items though if needed). Other than that, great atmosphere, very clean, would recommend!
My room was quite hot, the power points in the room were located in a strange place and the wifi access didn't reach the room. However, this hostel was very well located with great instructions on how to get there. The bar downstairs had a great atmosphere and the staff were incredibly friendly.
Bru Bar is a nice place to stay, but it's really really loud at night, so bring ear plugs with you
This is a really well-located hostel a few minutes walk from both the bus station and the train station and also right beside the city center. The beds were typical hostel fare, the en suite bathroom was clean and roomy. The wifi was really terrible and did not work in our room at all (2nd floor), it also didn't work for me most of the time downstairs in the bar/pool table area, which is unacceptable. Don't advertise wifi if your wifi isn't functioning adequately.
It was a basic hostel, no complaints besides the fact that the wifi was basically only in the common room. If that's what it's meant for fine, but don't say it has free wifi in the whole hostel.
The wifi was terrible, they know that Apple products have trouble connecting to it. However my group and everyone we met could only get the internet in the common area, Apple products or not. The breakfast was a little poor, only cereal and toast, but still plenty off it. The rooms were lovely and Bru is right next door to the best place to eat in Cork, The White Rabbit, and only just up the road from the bus into blarney, a definite must do, whether for the stone of the wonderful grounds
I adored the staff. The live music was so much fun! The only rough part was how loud it was. You could hear people in the room next to you, above, below, and across the way. But that's part of the hostel experience!
The bar down stairs is very popular. The music didn't stop until 2pm. I didn't mind it, but if you need peace and quiet, may not for you.
This hostel is joined with a dingy bar (pub). As soon as I walked in (2pm) I saw a dirty (perhaps semi-homeless) guy sleeping on a back bench. Also a couple of small dogs walking around the bar. So, this bar (pub) is a big negative to an otherwise average city hostel in an older section of Cork.
