Staff at reception are not so much helpful. That's the main problem about this hostel.

the service attitude was very bad, when you ask for help or information that the reception guy can not decide, he will ask the female manager, but she was just answer with no patience and ignored you, just pretend that you were not there(even not looked at me once when she talk to me. ). i think the female manager was the most unfriendly person i met in scotland or She is racial discrimination person!!!

Great hostel, probably one of the best I've ever stayed. Free walking tours through Edimburgh and the pub crawl really help people to get to know each other. Also very good food for reasonable price at the bar. Lovely staff, truly helpful! Make sure you choose this hostel on your stay in Edimburgh!

Pretty good party hostel. If you want a decent sleep I wouldn't recommend otherwise go for it.

Yeah... there were mice in the main restaurant/bar area after 12midnight. Not cool.

This hostel is great. Lockers in your own room, plenty of bathrooms and showers. Hang out room and dining room with huge TVs always a plus. They have an activity every night such as Movie night, or bar crawl. No free breakfast, but cheap options to pay for. Very comfortable and inviting. It was nice to just chill out and watch a show on a big couch after a long day exploring. Only complaint: the Internet connection was awful. You were lucky if you got it cause there's many users.

The staff was awesome! They did all they could to make sure that the experience at Budget Backpackers was a great one. The walking tour is GREAT, I would definitely recommend it. They have really cheap food sold there which is great for people on a budget.

While this is a large hostel, it could be cleaner. It is also a bit impersonal since there are so many people. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is walking distance from everything. Walking tour is a great thing to do to get your bearings the first day. Cafe is good for cheap breakfast or dinner.

Some of the bathrooms are a little dated and the wifi often doesn't work but the free walking tours and pub crawls are a lot of fun!

Stayed in a twin private which was actually a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom. Super clean, nice staff, friendly atmosphere, yummy breakfast... We always felt super safe and secure. Would definitely go back.

Excellent location and cool atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was very dirty throughout the entire place, including bedrooms, facilities and the guest kitchen.

the kitchen was sort of confusing, but the location is a great plus! You are directly below the castle.
