The hostel was basic but that was exspected, the staff were brilliant as were the activities they put on for the guests especially the oub crawl, I will definately be staying with budget backpackers again as it was brilliant overall!

The kitchen was often times untidy. You have to buy propper pans and pots. One sink is to less for to many people. The plug was missing. But the rooms are nice and comfy, clean and with lockers. The location is great in a great city! thanx for hospitality

With the constant noise from the drunken singers in the street at 3am, I wasn't able to get solid sleep until around 4am. Otherwise, the hostel was great. The breakfast was at a decent price and check-out was at the reasonable hour of 10am. I'd recommend this hostel except for its inconvenient location along the street with a lot of the lively clubs in Edinburgh. Just couldn't sleep well.

Nice place to stay, the staff was really nice and the hostel offers all the basics you need (24h reception, linen included..), no bad surprises - if you are looking for something solid, this is it.

Traveled to numerous cities in Europe and this was the best hostel by far that we stayed in! Rooms are spacious, free wi-fi in the lobby and fantastic location!

Myself & 3 friends stayed here for 3 nights in April '12 and the hostel was absolutely brilliant! The staff were lovely and very helpful. I've been interrailing all around Europe and experienced staying in many different hostels. I would say budget backpackers was one of my favourite!

Great spot, very bustling! There's a bar/cafe downstairs which provides a good range of cheap breakfast options, and free wifi. The common areas are quite noisy, but the rooms are quiet enough and quite removed from the bar etc. I'd go back there!

Honestly the best hostel I have ever stayed in and its cheap. Lots of common areas to meet people if your traveling on your own. Decent food for incredibly little (they have a deal on everyday, you get a meal and a pint for under 5 pounds). Its walking distance from all the sites and all the good places to go out. Pub crawls where really good, not overly crowded like they usually are and you feel obnoxious. They staff where amazing, helpful and friendly.

We were a bit surprised that there were men sleeping in the female room we booked... We didn't mind that, but it could be a problem for some (women). The staff made an effort to get to know people staying in the hostel, and that left some great memories for us!

This hostel put more work and attention on the entrance and bar area, than in the dorms. You might think its a pub, quite nice in the evening having a beer, listening to smb with his guitar, but sadly no kitchen to cook sth for yourself. The facilities were more than disappoiting, there was no closet, you couldn`t open a window and it seemed as if it had been cleaned weeks before. The actual highlight was at night when my sideboard came down and fall into my face and I don't wanna talk about the toilets

Noise from bar with live music until late. Kitchen a mess, showers with no place to hang clothes. Young travellers with no manners. I've hostelled since 1990 and would not return here, sorry. Great for students but not anyone over 40. I don't need to be entertained just want a quiet place to sleep.Wifi connection also spotty.
