While this is a large hostel, it could be cleaner. It is also a bit impersonal since there are so many people. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is walking distance from everything. Walking tour is a great thing to do to get your bearings the first day. Cafe is good for cheap breakfast or dinner.

The staff was awesome! They did all they could to make sure that the experience at Budget Backpackers was a great one. The walking tour is GREAT, I would definitely recommend it. They have really cheap food sold there which is great for people on a budget.

Stayed in a twin private which was actually a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom. Super clean, nice staff, friendly atmosphere, yummy breakfast... We always felt super safe and secure. Would definitely go back.

Some of the bathrooms are a little dated and the wifi often doesn't work but the free walking tours and pub crawls are a lot of fun!

the kitchen was sort of confusing, but the location is a great plus! You are directly below the castle.

Excellent location and cool atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was very dirty throughout the entire place, including bedrooms, facilities and the guest kitchen.

From the minute I walked in I really liked the place! The staff were welcoming and had a sense of humour, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the cafe/bar was great! Definitely recommend it :)

Very good hostel... stayed in a 30 bed dorm, that is actually more like 2 dorms of 15 beds each because they are in two floors... the upper one is like a balcony. Bathroom and showers clean... Friendly staff. Great location in the city center. Would stay there again

The staff were really welcoming and helpful. They let us know about the event on the evening we arrived but didn't pressure us at all to go to it, which was good because it didn't make us feel uncomfortable or pressured, especially as we'd had a long journey up to Edinburgh. Delicious breakfast and very reasonable too!

Be aware of creaky beds!

The cleanliness of this hostel is definitely something that I would like to highlight and potentially impede me from staying in the hostel again. The floor of my room is really dusty, as if someone has not clean the place for ages. If a broom is available I would definitely clean it on my own. In addition the mixed bathrooms at Level 2 often have blockage. The slow wifi is not a serious concern for someone who like to be outdoors when travelling.

Loved this place! Only stayed two nights and wish I could have stayed longer! Walking tour was really great, and the pub crawl was legit! Really easy to meet people here

Great hostel! Just too bad breakfast wasn't included. Discounts on food in their cafe is nice though.

Budget backpacker is a nice, characteristic hostel. It is definitely a perfect choice for youths as it gets a bar and there are events nearly every night. Rooms and toilets are very clean. However, I got poor stay in the first two nights as other travelers in the same room of mine were very noisy and not respectful. Moreover, the wifi signal was very poor. Also, some males used the ladies' washroom, quite embarrassing. Except these few points, it is a very good hostel!

Great hostel for meeting people. They offer a pub crawl and walking tour both of which proved to be a good means of finding other solo travelers. The hostel well suited what I was looking for and I'd recommend to my friends.
