Since too many of the staff think music is only for them or near-adults, I had to endure the noise of punk, trance, whiny bands and other thumping beats from before dawn to midnight, with few breaks or refuges from that (even after pleading). One staff member, Jordan, tried to switch to softer music--classical guitar, but was soon 'outvoted'. No WIFI in rooms means putting up with that noise elsewhere. The 'Chill Room'? Forget it. Noisy. So, I checked out early and fled to a very quiet hostel.

Very nice hostel. Absolutely clean (showers + toilets as well as the bedrooms), young but responsible staff and nice evening activities. Just one tiny little minus point: No sockets in the bathrooms, so you have to dry your hair in your bedroom. That might annoy all the others staying there if you're up for showering in the night. But nevertheless SUPERNICE hostel, I'll definitely recommend you!

Great hostel! Friendly staff, safe, clean rooms & facilities, and a fun vibe. The only complaint was that we had luggage that was too big to fit into their luggage holders and they couldn't provide us with another option. Overall, I would say go for it!

It was a nice hostel. Sometimes the rooms a little smelly. Value for money definitely. The design of the hostel is nice. Pub crawling every night is good. Driers didnt really work. Don´t forget to bring your converters or something cause apparently they dont have them anymore.

The location couldn't be better (very central, in the Grasmarket and just off of the Royal Mile) , the lobby and common spaces are fun, the food deals that the hostel has are very cheap and taste good too, and I would absolutely come back here and recommend it to anyone going to Edinburgh. I stayed in a 12-bed room and everyone was very pleasant, and it was excellent value for the money. Our room was a bit smelly and you have to pay for padlocks for the lockers, but that's all that's not great!

Budget Backpackers was quite an experience. Apart from being conveniently located and being a decent place to come back and crash every night, the vibe in the property was upbeat and fun. The staff's initiatives in adding value to the trip, by way of activities like drinking games and a local pub-crawl, was commendable. Everyone was friendly and made us feel at home there. Any queries about the area or requests for local traveling tips were well entertained as well.

Was an ok hostel, quite large and a bit old. Nice bar area down stairs. The dorms are nothing special but do the job! Would stay here again for its price but its not the greatest place i've stayed.
