got to the hostel and was greeted by the night porter who checked us in and took our deposits for our keys. its was only after she checked and somehow there was only one key between 3. we got upstairs to our 8 bed dorm to discover that it was actually 10 beds. the showers were nice though. and the room itself was nice. it rained the whole time and made the stairs a hazard as they were very slippy and dangerous. the kitchen was filthy and tiny with nowhere to sit. staff were clueless.

Hi, Thanks for taking you time to review us. It was a bit unfortunate that it rained two days in a row while you were staying with us. However ours stairs are made of concrete and not wood - i am a bit confused how they can get slippery. Your online booking was for 2 people but as you were three on arrival we had to shift you over to a bigger dorm - I am sorry about that. The kitchen is getting cleaned three times a day and as you could see in your room and shower our cleaner are trying hard to clean the hostel properly. You also obviously missed our bar area with a seating capacity of 150 people... I unfortunately don't know how you meant that staff is clueless. Everyone employed knows about the hostel, the facilities, cairns area, tours, Bars/nightclubs... We thank you for your time and hope you enjoy your travels.

rooms and en-suits were nice and clean but kitchen was a little grubby, saw a cockroach and small bugs in cupboards

Hostel was clean, beds comfy and wifi ok. Only get access to it in the main reception area. Free shuttle bus to town every 2 hrs as about 20 min walk away. Main disappointing factors for my rating was the lack of going on. Ther was a bar but it was shut n as so far from centre nothing to do. Got kicked out of the chill area at 10 n this is where the wifi is so nothing to do if u want to just chill. U can work here though in exchange for accomodation. Would recommend goin to reef more central
