Great hostel. Rooms are clean, wifi in the entire hotel, amazing common rooms with pool and a bar. great for meeting other travelers! Drawbacks are the showers aren't in the room but outside (even for the smallest dorm - 4 people), bathroom hallway is a little dodgy looking. Keep in mind also that the hotel is 15-20 minute walk to the Edinburgh pub crawl and the royal mile/haymarket/castle, and that it CAN rain non-stop in Edinburgh!

We found a mouse in our room and although the staff was quick at trying to resolve the situation, they did not completely fix it and did not offer us any compensation. Also, although the hostel is in a good location, there is a lot of construction going on in front of it, which made it hard for us to hail a cab back to the train station with all our luggage.

Hostel is really good and excellent location. Its only too big for persons who are traveling alone.

Location good for places of interest, shopping and bars.Rooms clean and comfortable.Staff friendly and helpfull. But showers were out of service on my floor, staff directed me to showeres on next level. After shower go dis orientaded on stairwell, went up instead of down.Entered what turned out to be staff only area.Got serious challenge from senior member of staff.Hence low score for facilities high score security.

Great stay at Caledonian Backpackers. Showers went ice cold while I was in them, but that was the only problem. The location was good, the beds were comforatable and the internet was free.

good location, just at the tip of Prince Street. big hostel. weird bathroom. it has no space for changing nor hanging clothes, you need to walk out the bathroom naked to get your clothes, definitely not very convenient for female. otherwise, the bar and kitchen have nice atmosphere and nice decoration. the rooms are clean and tidy. beds are comfortable. will definitely stay there again if they improve the bathrooms.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was incredibly close to town, and the people in the hostel were lovely to hang out with.

Loved this hostel! It is in a super cool building with tons of cool art on the walls! The staff is super helpful and willing to answer any questions about the city, the cool places to go, good pubs in the area, and really anything else. The kitchen was huge and definitely had ample room for storage. They had 4 computers with fast internet (the whole hostel had good wifi though) and had a bunch of couches and places to chill. Definitely one of my favorite hostels ever, in my favorite city.

Great hostel! Great ambience and better showers than I have at home :)

The good: solid location (15 minutes to Waverly station, 20 to royal mile, Airlink drops off/picks up right nearby), decent breakfast, fun hangout area. The bad: the facilities were severely lacking, as it seemed like there was only one bathroom (two stalls/showers) for an entire floor, which made it constantly busy and dirty. It was also fairly loud (constant parties in the bar area). Solid overall, just not the best I've seen.

This hostel definitely has a lot of character. I'd read earlier reviews about the showers not being very private but when I stayed there it looked like they'd improved it. Still not really anywhere to change. The wifi was great all over the hostel, very fast. My only complaint was that the staff wasn't very helpful when it came to touristy things to do. They didn't seem very knowledgable of the area and were pretty passive and seemed irritated. All my hostel mates were really nice though!

Very valuable for the price, nice staff, fair breakfast and facilities. No lift and little bit dirty kitchen, but just because some people are dirty. In the bad way. Otherwise very recommended. Staff so polite, as well helpful and attentive all the time. Kind regards.

Excellent location, just next to the Rose Street, that has pubs, restaurants, shops. The breakfast is OK and the bathrooms could be better. The staff is nice. The only problem is a pub near the hostel that keeps the music so loud until 2 am, bad stuff for those who suffer with light sleep

Loved this hostel. One of the best I've stayed with in Europe. Great wifi, works in the rooms whichis a big plus! The only little annoyance was electric outlets in the room, there aren't enough.
