Great place with great staff. The rooms had great beds and air conditioning and fans. They really help you with all your bookings too ( though other places will be way more discounted if you go to town). There are fairly frequent trips to town though the last there/back is at 9:30 so you have to take a cab back if you are out too late.

Thought the staff here were great especially the three guys from the UK. They run a great bus service from the airport and around the town. Basic but clean and a really welcoming place! The guys are great at booking trips at good prices and renting under water cameras.

Wonderful staff- very nice and helpful. The place is nice, but a it (too) quiet. Also not perfect location, but there's a free ride to city center every hour, so not that big a problem

Just 1 plug in at the dorm and that was already taken from the aircon. Rooms were clean but the toilets and showers really small and no light.

Lovely vibe from the moment of entering the hostel. I arrived later than planned (after hours) but this was no problem. A little bit far out but the free shuttle bus more than makes up for this, especially the early bus to the harbour in time for any trips to the barrier reef. Everyone around Cairns spoke highly of the hostel. The only downside is the bar in the middle of the kitchen/dining area, trying too cook food in your pyjamas while people are standing around drinking is a bit odd!

The hostel was very dirty. The bathrooms were terrible and the shower was not cleaned during the 5 days that I was there. It is more of an outdoor hostel and the only thing that is somewhat sealed from the elements is the rooms but the doors and windows don't seal so expect bugs to get in the room. No TV room. The air conditioning was very good and the shuttle system is OK once you get the hang of it. 15 minute walk to city. Operated by backpackers who don't seem to have any over site.

Planned to stay 5 checked out after 3, Room was filthy with cockroaches and bedbugs. Room smelt damp. Was told its the tropics but its the only hostel ive been in in cairns that's had roaches in the room and on my bed. Kitchen is filthy, They expect 50c for a cup of tea where its free everywhere. Some staff are friendly, hourly free bus into town, good internet, Bar is on site. What let me down in this hostel was the dorm. One girl had roaches climbing out of her baggage. Would not recommend.

Great stuff and courtesy bus was really awesome! Not in the middle of centre, but not impossible to walk (I did it every time). Take part of activities every day! I came back to Calypso and probably will came again!

Loved calypso! Staff was very friendly, it was a short walk into town, very doable. Clean facilities and wasn't noisy at all even with the bar

loved it!! the perfect balance of relaxed and fun and the dorm room i stayed in was massive with air con! staff lively and free but to town and airport... but one of the rooms got broken into though which was worrying!

I stayed at the Calypso for 5 days & even extended it by a further 3. The staff were brilliant. They knew of all the best tours & trips to book up & had mountains of flyers & brochures on each tour! The communal area's were dead quiet during the day which was good if you wanted to just relax, sit by the pool or use the internet to book up a trip or 2. Plenty of showers & toilets which were cleaned daily. The free shuttle bus to & from town every hour was great if you didn't fancy the 15 min walk

I was looking for a relatively quite but still lively hostel with a bar and Calypso has that. I loved the chilled atmosphere with all the plants it felt like I'm in a tropical forest. Most hostels are big and party hostels which I definitely didn't want so it ticked my boxes. Staff very nice, social activities are enjoyable too. The free shuttle bus makes it up for the distance from the center. I did like it there overall :)

definatly advise i had to leave early due to unforseen circumstances and they were brilliant about it offering a full refund

The hostel was very dirty and didn't feel very secure. I asked for an all girls dorm and was put in a mixed dorm if they are going to offer all girl and all boy or mixed they should stick to what the booking asks.
