great hostel, good people and great atmosphere, though the kitchen was small and I missed a tv room ;) recommendable!!

Stayed 4 nights. Had aircon in room, made good use of pool and free city shuttle bus. Occasionally got a bit too loud at night for early-morning departures, but the bar closed around 10pm most nights so wasn't too bad. Overall a good-value hostel.

Air conditioning didn't work in my room. Not comfortable for Cairns summer nights!

This was a very good hostel. It is nice with a bar and something happening in the bar every night. :)

Great place! They gave my brother and I a private room for the 3 nights we were there at a discounted price :) was a bit noisy at night as our window was close by the night time action in the main area. Great place would go back!

The Calypso home, many travelers come through and end up staying or use it as base camp. People are very open, staff is extremely knowledgeable, age range is generally mid-late twenties but varied a little which was nice since I'm in my mid 30's. The pool is adequate but no sun after 3:30p, so if lying by the poolside is your thing go to the town Lagoon for people watching instead. Safe, clean, fun evening events every night, quiet after 11p for all the early activities. Kitchen needs some TLC.

Calypso hostel was very good! Stuff was friendly and always happy. The atmosphere was good and cozy. Not too big hostel so its easy to get new friends and have fun at the pool side. I really do recommend this hostel to people who like to have fun and relaxing holiday!

Unbelievable stay! We could not have had more fun. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Free bus to and from town. Great place to party but they also make sure it is quiet when it needs to be. We came back after dinner on Sunday and they had brought in three different snakes and two lizards you could carry and pass around. Great atmosphere, everyone was drinking and hanging out. All-in-all would recommend to anyone!

A nice and fun place to stay! Every night they have something going on there, BBQ, games, pool competition... you can join in or just sit back and relax. The shuttle bus picked us up 10mins after we landed at the airport - great! Good place to meet people, not so good if you want to sleep early;-)
