Lovely place, the bar makes it really easy to meet people, I was staying in an all girl dorm and everyone was lovely. There is a free bus provided that will take you the five minute drive into town if you don't fancy walking and they picked me up and dropped me off at the airport too! Showers were often cold though. Very friendly staff and nightly events if you don't fancy exploring. Big fridges to store food and good kitchen. Go stay there!

Nice place and the bus service to the city is great.

Definitely a trek from town, but the atmosphere and quiet nature of the place makes up for it. I would have liked a little more security - there are no lockers and the door to my room was almost always left unlocked. Most other hostels without lockers I stayed in had an auto-lock on the door at least.

One of the best places ive been to so far, really nice hostel. Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Always something going on like, quiz night, bbq, reptile show, games night. Only bad thing is that its 15min walk to the city, but come on, thats not a problem! and they have a free shuttle bus so...Really recommend this place!

Had a good stay here. Its clean and the staff are friendly, and its easy to book excursions through the reception. Its quite a distance to The centre of Cairns but they run a shuttle back and forth pretty much on the hour. WiFi was $8 for the 24 hours which is quite expensive. It has a chilled out feel to it and isn't a party hostel. I would recommend it if you are looking to save some money, and want to pick your nights to go out, not feel obliged to go like in other central hostels.

The Calypso Inn is definitey a really nice place to stay. For just 20$ you'll get lots of fun, nice people at the reception, that'll help you with any questions and REALLY beat every price if you want to book any tour!. There are two fuly equiped kitchens, nice and clean rooms and showers. Loads of awesome Hostel activities (definitely try to stay over a sunday, so you'll get to see the free reptile show and hold some pythons! ;)) There's a hourly shuttle to the city so the place is no prob!

This place is great!!! Just remember to bring the bug repellent.

i was very impressed with the staff and the friendly Atmosphere they radiated the room was clean. the extra facilities where great ie. the bar, the pool table. the swimming pool and even a station for tea . the only thing that needs updating are the showers please pass on my thanks to the staff for their help and thanks again Niall Thompson
