good hostel, nice common area, good staff and reception service:the bus service to and from the city is very useful(not too far to walk anyway).small but clean toilets, great showers and the room was big enough, but it didn't look like anybody cleaned it during the 4 days i was there.the kitchen is too small for such hostel,i always had to wait to be able to cook without too many people around.good security, day and night, and helpful staff, always ready to organize tours and activities in the area.

Had a fantastic time at Calypso. Would definitely go back. Rooms are great value for money, staff are friendly, welcoming & can't do enough to help you. Only downside for me was the kitchen. Wouldn't say it was adequate for the number of rooms there but considering everything else there that was easy enough to overlook. A fantastic hostel!

It\'s on the outskirts of town for the price. When we arrived it was really hot and we paid for a private room, and our options were either leave the door open and all the bar noise comes in, or turn on the fan which spewed paint chips when on all night. Bugs in the room, bathrooms were cramped and on the dirty side. Staff seemed burned out and not that happy.

Stayed 4 nights. Had aircon in room, made good use of pool and free city shuttle bus. Occasionally got a bit too loud at night for early-morning departures, but the bar closed around 10pm most nights so wasn't too bad. Overall a good-value hostel.

Air conditioning didn't work in my room. Not comfortable for Cairns summer nights!

This was a very good hostel. It is nice with a bar and something happening in the bar every night. :)
