No maps of area provided & no help with trips or transport! I thought that was the point of staying at a hostel.

Owner Comment (Show)
You must have overlooked the information column in the reception area. There are several maps of different scale, buses and train information as well as "Things to do in the city". Never mind, perhaps next time you can have a close look!

Private double room was large and clean but is now a bit worn compared to photos online. Noise from guests in courtyard can be heard from second floor and building construction mustn't be the sturdiest, as the room shook when neighbouring doors were closed! A bit overpriced.

Nice hostel with clean rooms. I had booked for the wrong date, but they were fine with changing the dates when we arrived days too early. Good location close to train station and airport. Unfortunately, only very limited food and drinks available.

I had been there in 2006, and 2012, it didn't seem like to be changed a lot. room was ok to stay but cold. no privacy at the bathroom.(there was a curtain to devide the place between room and bathroom) they don't have booking ticket or hostel in other cities. location was ok(anyway it's easy to go around in Kunming ), price was not too bad. room was big and bed was clean ( mine was a private double). nothing else, no big fun but quiet.

Owner Comment (Show)
This is an insufficiently accurate statement. Although Camellia Youth Hostel has been in Kunming for long time, it was moved to existing location not until April 2009. The hostel was completely remodelled in early 2010. The renovated hostel (current one) was reopened by an international delegation in the end of May 2010. We were voted by international travellers the most sustainable youth hostel in China last year.

Its freezing inside, no air-con. I ended up with a serious infection in my throat after staying here.j The light in the bathroom is really bad, not good if you want to put in contact lenses. The internet is also pretty slow. I would never stay here again

It's a really lovely place to stay. There's a big garden between you and the main road where you can sit and hang out. The staff speak good english and are very happy to help out. Our room was spacious and cleaned daily.
