Property Information:
Lonely Planet described us as 'Toronto's best run hostel...a sure fire winner, with a great location in the Entertainment District of downtown Toronto'.
Hostelworld users have honoured us several times at the Hoscars, giving us the Best Hostel in North America (2003), 3rd Best Hostel in North America (2006) and the Best in Canada (2006).
Welcome to Toronto's award-winning and most unique hostel!
There's a 10 ft Mohawk Indian in the lounge, a totem pole on the patio and each room is named after a great Canadian (everything from Bryan Adams to Neil Young). Every morning there's a free pancake breakfast and a choice of tea or coffee.
Located right downtown in the heart of Toronto's Entertainment District, the hostel is a short walk to the CN Tower, the Air Canada Centre, the Theatre District and some of Toronto's best shopping districts, bars, and restaurants.
We offer accommodation to suit everyone, from private rooms (single and double) to quad rooms (four people to a room) to female-only rooms. All the rooms are spacious with thick, comfortable mattresses and extra-big wooden bunk beds. Fresh linen and towels are provided for free and there's locker facilities for your stuff!
The hostel also offers 24-hour reception, air-conditioning, a free pancake breakfast, free Wi-Fi, free coffee and tea, a large outdoor patio, an 18-seat cinema, a fully equipped kitchen and day trips to Niagara Falls.
At Canadiana you never need to feel alone. Every night we organize an event, from pub crawls to barbeques served on our outdoor patio. Once a week we visit the comedy club where Mike Myers, Jim Carey and John Candy (all originally from Toronto) started their careers.
Our wonderful events will help you make the most of your time in Toronto!
Mondays have Monday Madness, including free improv, killer pool and 1/2-price drinks!
Tuesdays feature a tour and tasting at the Steam Whistle Brewery ($).
Wednesdays there's a free tour of the Art Gallery of Ontario followed by $10 Pitchers at Einstein's Open Mic Night.
Thursdays we have our Back Patio BBQ followed by karaoke at 10 p.m.
Friday is Wine & Cheese Night (free).
Saturdays are for the pub crawl (free entry at all bars, $2.50 mixed drinks & $12 pitchers).
Sunday is Movie Night with free popcorn in our hostel cinema.
We offer discounts for ISIC, BUNAC/SWAP, VIP Backpackers, and Hostelling International cardholders.
If you read the guidebooks, you will see that for style, service, and atmosphere no other place in town compares. Here is what the guidebooks have to say:
'The super-friendly Canadiana Backpackers Inn is in quiet, charming Victorian houses with a great location in the Entertainment District'.
Lonely Planet, 2001.
'An assortment of young adventurous professionals populate the Canadiana, whose wooden beds and Victorian facade create a calm refined atmosphere. Its central location is near several hot nightclubs.' Lets Go, 2002.
'The Canadiana Backpackers Inn is booked and not surprisingly. It's clean and new and where people gather is even tastefully appointed. There's a patio on which guests are treated to free barbeques.....staff exceedingly friendly.'
Now Magazine, 2000.

Solid place, clean, well located, with awesome staff. Clearly a lot of effort is put into making the stay as pleasant as possible. the Decentralized multi-building set up is kind of nice as well. Lack of towels in the bathroom is kind of frustrating, Don't really want to take my shower towel with me just to wash my hands. Pub crawl could have been a bit more active, but for a free activity one cannot really complain!
