Excellent hostel, so clean and tidy. Room was big and bright and really fresh and the bathrooms were immaculate. Staff were friendly and the kitchen area was great. Also, brilliant cheap breakfast from the cafe next door. Only downsides were there was no atmosphere but I don't think that was the fault of the hostel but because canberra is really quiet. Also, the pool and Jacuzzi aren't heated which was a bit of a dissapointment. Overall, great hostel.

This Hostel was very good. Enough space in an 8 dorm for the luggage. The bathrooms and kitchen were very clean.

A generally clean, modern hostel with great kitchen facilities. Sadly, the hot water in the 1st floor showers was very inconsistent...cannot imagine that being very good in the depths of a Canberra Winter! Centrally located, sunny and comfortable with helpful staff. I would recommend this place for sure.

I spent one night at the Canberra YHA on Sat March 30,I took my 84 year old mother to Canberra from Melborne to see the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition at the NGA. iI have stayed in other YHA hostels around Australia and NZ and always been happy with them. This was fine except for two things: The showers were cold in the morning and it would have been nice if you provided free tea and coffee in the kitchen as at other YHAs . Apart from these gripes, it was clean & friendly. Regards Linda House.

Canberra City YHA is ok. Not extremly modern, for a YHA not extremly clean, the stuff not very motivated. But nevertheless I recommend the hostel. I found everything what I needed. Unfortunalty the swimming pool was out of order...

All was good till about 3am, a guy started yelling, REALLY loud the worst obcsenities, unrepeatable, arguementive, discovered they where in the room two up, It went on for 40mins, till we went out and ran into the night staff, whom put a stop to it. I wanted to call the police. I found it quite frightening, and feel sorry for the gentleman in the room next to them alone with 4 children.

Being the only hostel in Canberra, I wasn't really spoilt for choice, but luckily this place didn't really disappoint. It was generally quite clean all over, having plenty of great facilities that I made good use of. Only downsides were when on one of the days housekeeping staff had removed all the clothes I had hanging on the railings of my bed, for some reason thinking I had checked out and left them there when I didn't! Luckily I got them all back but it was a little annoying at the time.

Nice clean hostel, good location, comfy clean rooms. Free tea/coffee would have been nice and it's the first time I've had to pay for luggage storage.

This is a hostel suffering from a lack of competition. A lot of basic upkeep needs doing, and amenities typically provided free-of-charge at modern hostels such as wi-fi, luggage storage, and breakfast are heavily over-priced here. I would not recommend it, except it really is the only decent hostel in Canberra. And at least the staff are friendly and helpful and it is centrally located.

Staff were lovely (all women), except for the staffer who, on my departure day (Monday 28.01.'13), sent me to the Central Bus Station after I enquired about where I should catch the Express Airport bus. After returning to the Hostel at 7.30am in the morninmg another staffer provided the correct directions.

We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was way better than expected! The only negative you could find was a lack of spoons.

Right in the centre of the city (north of the lake) & was in a safe area. About a 40 min walk to parliament house. The 10 bed dorm was clean, spacious, had large locker storage with night lights being provided above each bed. The hostel had the usual YHA feel with large TV room, roof terrace & good sized kitchen. Also a jacuzzi, swimming pool & sauna. 2nd floor bathrooms are nicer than those on 3rd floor! Pay for WI-FI, ($5 per day or $10 for 3). Mix of backpackers &older guests working in city.

The staff of the front desk/reception were eager to help and please. The washrooms very clean The elevator service very good, when needed. Location great right next to the bus stops at the London Circuit.

The hostel is a very good deal - good facilities, clean, proficient staff right in the middle of Canberra, at a good price. I read some negative reviews of the hostel before booking and having stayed at the hostel do not agree with them

The hostel itself was brilliant, very clean and spacious with excellent facilities and brilliant air conditioning, bathrooms, sauna, swimming pool, well equipped kitchen and café. However, while there for the festive period there were no activities organised and the whole place lacked any kind of atmosphere. There were school groups staying and it as almost impossible to socialise. As a solo traveller, staying in the hostel was quite a lonely experience compared to other, more sociable venues.
