After spending so much time in loud large hostels, Canterbury house was a nice change. I was suprised at having to take my shoes off before entering the house. There is a homely feel to the place but could do with updating and the cracks in the wall repairing. The kitchen is too small for the amount of people in the hostel but it was clean and tidy. It was also very quiet and would suit people who didn't want to party.

I really enjoyed staying in this hostel. Very friendly atmosphere and nice people. And then I love cats, and Melody (owners cat) is lovely.

I've stayed for two nights at the Canterbury house. It's really clean an the beds are good. But you have to keep in mind that you're staying in someones house and that they are always around. For example, when you want to watch telly in the evening, you sit with them in the livingroom. That felt a bit strange. But the owners are very nice and will help you where ever they can. Good to know probably that they have a cat and that you can't wear your shoes inside the house.

Very cosy and comfortable. We enjoyed staying there and made a nice relationship with the staff. The only complaint I would have is the lack of a computer provided to get access to the internet.

Very welcoming, clean and friendly. Well organised and well stocked kitchen. Good location (next to a large Speights Alehouse) and plenty of off street parking. The owners live on site but are very unobtrusive.

Staying with Alan and Keiko at Canterbury house was really a nice and peaceful time. And Alan is so careful, always ready to help, to give some advice. A lovely place, a nice garden and really a small home away from home.

Quiet, warm, and like being a guest in someone's home. Japanese theme and clearly popular with Japanese visitors. On main street with good pub food next door. Close to cafes and coffee bars in Victoria St, and the #29 bus to the airport ($7.50). With the centre of town still closed off, we've lost lots of food/coffee places, so being close to Victoria St is fantastic.

Fantastic! Really friendly owners, when he saw my luggage (2 bags) that I was planning to walk to the bus station with, he offered a few times to drive me to the station (in the end I said yes, though it would've been an inconvenience for him). Was very nice of the owner. The place was also very clean, great showers. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Very relaxed atmosphere with lovely hosts. Really appreciated the free laundry and hot drinks (especially Milo!!). Gardens were beautiful. Admittedly, if you are a partying backpacker then this place isn't for you, but for couples or maturer travellers looking for a bit of peace and quiet, you can't go wrong with this place! Would certainly return.
