My mom and I stayed here for one night in a 6 bed female dorm and we were very satisfied. It's a great location, quiet street close to all the monuments and museums, and the staff was very welcoming and nice. We would definitely recommend Capital View to others.

This place was great. I have stayed at the other hostel a few blocks away, and the other hostel is not as safe or clean as Capital View.

Friendly staff, weird rule though with no shoes allowed inside which was hard getting used too, it's not a private residence, it's a hostel and we are paying customers, so I don't get why there is this rule. Room was good, comfy bed, top floor bathroom very average, tiniest sink I have seen, barely enough room to wash your hands, so went to 2nd floor bathroom, these sinks here were water saving which was slightly time consuming and cumbersome.

This hostel is large, has a lot of communal space, is very clean and is located in a house in a quiet street. The terrace area is great and we were able to walk from the amtrack. I would have loved to have stayed in the hostel longer but we only needed a short stay in Washington.

Decent place to stay. Nice bathrooms and common areas. Location was good - close to everything (if you don't mind walking) and safe enough. I'd stay here again.

It's just a shame that the big balcony was not ready and didn't look like in the pictures. ~It would have been great to see the white house and other stuff from there but tall buildings around obstruct the view...

Owner Comment (Hide)
hey there, the patio is all finished now.... I must say, those tall buildings came up in the last few years... The capitol is still visible, but not so much the white house, etc. thank you!

Maybe offering a pancake breakfast would be nice, but since the space in the kitchen would not be enough, that's fine...

Great hostel! Very friendly staff. Was impressed with the bedrooms- very spacious, and lovely views. House had a lot of character, friendly people, great vibe. Some things that could be improved: paper towel and saran wrap in the kitchen, along with some boxes of tea- would be much appreciated!! Especially the tea. Also: toilets were semi-functional at best. Upstairs toilet on second floor in washroom with three showers worked sporadically and multiple times became clogged in my three day visit.

hey there, thanks for a nice descriptive review. We will enter it into the monthly drawing. Also, good point about the tea - we usually DO HAVE tea and coffee for free - we will make it a more obvious corner. Also, as far as the toilets - should be fixed today, we have something causing the "slow down", and are using a chemical solution that takes 6 hours to deal with it =)... nothing serious though, thanks!

Nice place to stay. At eating-times (morning and evening) it was crowdy in kitchen and on table. Perhaps a second table? We slept at room 0, and it could be rather warm in the mornings. I don't know how you do that in summer.

Very nice hostel, almost in the center, rather clean, all we needed were there. Internet, computers, kitchen, bathroom with hot water, soap and hairdryer, clean shirts and towels. We've read the reviews so were prepared and took sleepers. One minus - terrace is dirty and dark, maybe in summer situation is different.

hey there, thanks for a great review! Yes, the terrace is almost the best part. We've been renovating/upgrading it, since it got warm in April, and it's almost done! We will be installing about 20 ambient lights, "tiki" brazilian cherry wood and grass, along with some trees, new furniture and new hammocks. The pictures will be up in a few weeks! thanks

We stayed there 2 nights, The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff could be a bit more helpful as we couldnt find the hostel and we had to call a few time to get directions from them, but could it be because we arrived a bit late (10.30pm). If you arrive after 10pm they will charge you and extra $20/30.We had 3 beds booked in a 4 bedroom and they split us in 2 rooms..:( but overall was a nice stay, clean hostel and close to the main attractions.:)

There was never hot water. The girls in my room never shut up. The hostel was far away from the centre of DC. Plus I was assaulted out the front of the hostel by a stranger. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience.

hey there, Comparing to the other reviews, that state the hostel being "in the center" of washington DC; and also the fact that the hostel is actually in the center of downtown DC, I wonder if this review was meant for another place? Also, we have tankless water heaters, that never run out of hot water - that's actually impossible, as the production is non-stop (them being tankless is the idea here). I'm sorry about your experience, but this must be for another place.

hey there, thanks for your review. We have professional cleaning staff every day from 9:30AM to 4PM non stop, and then every 3-4 until office close to make sure that everything is clean. All of the bathrooms are mopped, and all of the tile (bathrooms are 100% tiled on the floor and walls) is sprayed with scrubbing bubbles/clorox solution every day. Additionally we have all semi-new beds/mattresses and sheets are always changed into new after quite a short time of usage. Cleanliness is number 1!

From the outside not the most beautiful building, but it's quite good. You can use PCs with Internet. The kitchen is big and well-equipped. Because of the dishwasher the dish is pretty clean all of the time. The meeting room with the big TV was nice and you get to know a lot of other people. Nice stay.

It is near chinatown and 15 minutes walk from the main atractions of the city. It has certain rules you´ll have to follow during your stay, and it is very secure, every room has a code to enter and the main door to the house also. It is not the faniest hostel i´d ever stayed buy it´s ok anyway.

In terms of location, this hotel is juste perfect. 10 minutes walk, and you arrive in the Washington Mall ! Moreover, you have a lot of shops nearby, CVS, Walgreens, restaurants... Chinatown is 5 minutes walk too. It is very practicle if you want to visit downtown without thinking of transportations, foods... Moreover, the staff is very nive, they answer nicely to your questions and try to help you the best they can. I staid two days, and they were wonderful, partially thanks to the hotel !

hey there, thank you so much for a nice and informative review! We will enter this review into a $50 raffle drawing as well! Hostel is in downtown DC, friendly and clean place to stay. Also, don't forget to mention the slippers that are available to guests - as we do ask for folks to take their shoes off! thank you again!

awesome place, I don't understand lower than 100% reviews. It has the BEST location in DC - you can check google maps - nothing is more central than Capital View. It is THE SAME price or lower than other hostels, and there are PROFESSIONAL cleaners here every day for most of the day. Also, unlike almost all other hostels, this place is LEGAL (along with DC Lofty)....so I can deduct it from taxes (business travel), since they have an actual license to show! Loved it.
