Great hostel! Very friendly staff. Was impressed with the bedrooms- very spacious, and lovely views. House had a lot of character, friendly people, great vibe. Some things that could be improved: paper towel and saran wrap in the kitchen, along with some boxes of tea- would be much appreciated!! Especially the tea. Also: toilets were semi-functional at best. Upstairs toilet on second floor in washroom with three showers worked sporadically and multiple times became clogged in my three day visit.

Very nice hostel, almost in the center, rather clean, all we needed were there. Internet, computers, kitchen, bathroom with hot water, soap and hairdryer, clean shirts and towels. We've read the reviews so were prepared and took sleepers. One minus - terrace is dirty and dark, maybe in summer situation is different.

We stayed there 2 nights, The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff could be a bit more helpful as we couldnt find the hostel and we had to call a few time to get directions from them, but could it be because we arrived a bit late (10.30pm). If you arrive after 10pm they will charge you and extra $20/30.We had 3 beds booked in a 4 bedroom and they split us in 2 rooms..:( but overall was a nice stay, clean hostel and close to the main attractions.:)

There was never hot water. The girls in my room never shut up. The hostel was far away from the centre of DC. Plus I was assaulted out the front of the hostel by a stranger. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience.

From the outside not the most beautiful building, but it's quite good. You can use PCs with Internet. The kitchen is big and well-equipped. Because of the dishwasher the dish is pretty clean all of the time. The meeting room with the big TV was nice and you get to know a lot of other people. Nice stay.

It is near chinatown and 15 minutes walk from the main atractions of the city. It has certain rules you´ll have to follow during your stay, and it is very secure, every room has a code to enter and the main door to the house also. It is not the faniest hostel i´d ever stayed buy it´s ok anyway.

In terms of location, this hotel is juste perfect. 10 minutes walk, and you arrive in the Washington Mall ! Moreover, you have a lot of shops nearby, CVS, Walgreens, restaurants... Chinatown is 5 minutes walk too. It is very practicle if you want to visit downtown without thinking of transportations, foods... Moreover, the staff is very nive, they answer nicely to your questions and try to help you the best they can. I staid two days, and they were wonderful, partially thanks to the hotel !

hey there, thank you so much for a nice and informative review! We will enter this review into a $50 raffle drawing as well! Hostel is in downtown DC, friendly and clean place to stay. Also, don't forget to mention the slippers that are available to guests - as we do ask for folks to take their shoes off! thank you again!

awesome place, I don't understand lower than 100% reviews. It has the BEST location in DC - you can check google maps - nothing is more central than Capital View. It is THE SAME price or lower than other hostels, and there are PROFESSIONAL cleaners here every day for most of the day. Also, unlike almost all other hostels, this place is LEGAL (along with DC Lofty)....so I can deduct it from taxes (business travel), since they have an actual license to show! Loved it.

I've been traveling for awhile and this is the best hostel I've stayed in for a long time. It has an excellent location, great staff, and a fair price. On top of that, the rooms are clean, the bedding is fresh, and the facilities are great. There is wifi access almost everywhere, a spacious kitchen, and a large common room. Lastly, it seems like this is the kind of hostel that attracts interesting and trustworthy travelers. I met some cool people when I was there and I strongly recommend it!

Great location. Internal facility needs paint, more comfortable eating and cooking area. Bath/shower facilities need attention. Lighting, mirrors, outlets, sinks, etc. Light bulbs have been taken out of the sockets, making it very dark. The mirrors are inadequate. Rules for cooking and eating are clear, but the facilities for storing food, cooking and eating area are lacking. The facility needs new paint, the stairs and railings look shabby. Living room is dark and lacking intamacy.

hey there, thank you for an informative review. We do agree with the paint part - as it is tough for us to find time to paint with the hostel open through almost the entire year. We will have a few days in the next few months where it will be closed off and re-painted =). Our eating, food storing and cooking area is very spacious, for the small size of the hostel. Also there is additional seating on the nice roof top patio with the hammocks and a nice view. We constantly replace any lights that are out, the mirrors are "artistic" on purpose as we found them more aesthetically pleasing. The stairs and railings are actually updated and waxed original hardwood floors - we find it very nice looking. Living room/dining area may lack some intimacy - just turn off the lights ;) ! thank you!

Capital View is closed to the subway station, CVS and Safeway. Paul was very nice and did satisfy our request for bed exchange. We just stayed one night so did not use other facilities even the computers in the lobby or the kitchen. I would definitaly choose this hotel when I have friends going to DC again.

hey there, you mean CLOSE to the metro station - THREE in fact around us; CVS, Safeway, Bars, Restaurants, Movie theatre, Basketball arena, Hockey arena - essentially everything as it is in the very center of downtown DC. thank you!

The only good thing about this hostel is its location. The place is very simple.

hey there, thanks for your review. We would have to disagree, and say that at the VERY least - amazing location (more like it), as it is in the center of Washington, DC. The only hostel anywhere as close the center at that! Additionally, we have professional cleaners, and offer free hotel quality slippers on top of all freshly carpeted surfaces. Also, I must say so myself, the staff is pretty sweet =). However, the place is quite simple as almost ALL of our guests are here just to stay, and attend all of the multitudes of FREE museums and attractions in Washington, DC, attend internships, go to interviews, or visit for a short time while looking for something more permanent in the city. thanks!

Loved this place. It's is located in walking distance from all the sightseeing places. Staff will go extra mile if you need some assistance. It was my first stay in Hostel, but I really liked the idea of female only room. Makes you feel safe.

I don't think this place is secure enough! Homeless people all around. And the doors are just locked by the password. I felt so insecure when I was sleeping inside the room./ The staff asked us to take off our shoes, but I don't think their place is as enough as they told us, I felt so uncomfortable when stepping on the floor with bare foot. Restrooms are always full. I have to wait a long time to take a shower. What's more, it costed me a lot to stay there. I won't go there again.

hey there, we've noticed your extreme discomfort with this city, but experiencing new things, seeing new races for the first time is all part of travelling. We understood your concern over non-white population of DC, and it's a bit hard to reply to this comment knowing that it is what bothered you. Washington, DC does have quite a few homeless people in downtown DC with a few offices handling those affairs right there, and thus not too far from the hostel, or any other business around Gallery Place. We ask for people to take their shoes off, so as to help keep the place clean. The entire hostel is mopped and vacuumed every single day, with professional carpet cleaning every few months (or whenever needed). The doors to both the outside and your individual rooms all have codes that routinely change - similar to a key but more convenient. The security factor is identical, no matter how you lock your door. Additionally we have a camera surveillance system that is monitored when outside of office hours. Lastly, we're sorry you found the prices too high, but please bare in mind that these rates are set by a supply and demand curve, and we are 100% never the most expensive hostel option in Washington, DC - we make sure of that. We hope the rest of your travels were happier.

Great place! The staff and the other guests are so interesting and nice. They are all willing to share and help with tips about the city. We really enjoyed our stay here, and at DC lofty. Next time I go to DC I will try and reserve a room at just one of them for longer. We had to move this time from one to the other, but both are one by the same people, so it was easy.
