they are under construction and there is noise all day starting 8 in the morning. And the carpet of the room was so dirty that you were afraid to touch it. And for the dirty room I paid double than in another hostel in the same area, where the stuff was nice and the room clean.....

I stayed 4 days at the C.H. 2nd may on, there is construction work ongoing till mid of may! noise and dirt after 8am! the showers on on the 4th floor can't be used must go to 1st floor. Be aware of that. Everything else is ok, this was my 4th time in this hostel.

They refused to supply toilet paper and forced every one on the forth floor to use the toilet on the first floor. Workman would start at 8am in the room next door, and you cant use the Captain's bar unless you buy there overpriced food.

Nice entrance, but my single room was old with stains on the floor. No chance to close safely my Windows. Wifi only in the entrance Hall.

If credit cards are not allowed, this should be advertised. If the bathroom of the 4th floor is going to be closed, this should be also remainded to the users previus they make the reservation. You should have some place to eat food bought outside the hostel.

The location is EXCELLENT! The bar overlooking the financial area and tv tower wa just what we needed for our short stay. However, I would rate it's cleanliness low.

No adaptation to customers needs! Our passeports were at the vietnamese consulate in order to get a visa. The staff did not let us check in, even with copies of our passports and letter from the consulate, and finally kicked us out. Moreover, for the 5 of us who checked in, mattresses were awful and staff really unpleasant!

I am unsure as to whether I would stay here again. The only outstanding feature for me was the location and the view from the bar. It was a pretty average hostel in China. There was only one staff member at reception who was friendly and helpful; I even witnessed an argument between a staff member and a guest. There is only WIFI in the reception and the bar and the food and drink in the bar is completely overpriced. If I returned to Shanghai I probably wouldn't stay here again.

I don't know why this hostel is so highly rate! The place had son atmosphere, no common area, and the facilities were dated and a bit dirty. It's not the cleaners fault, as you can't polish a turd. This place needs to be renovated. The dorm room was nice and warm, but the hallways and everything else were not very nice. Fund a dead bird in the shower, and walked past people smoking in the corridor. I promptly checked out and went to the better hiker hostel, which is great.

Rooms are very good / convenient, but toilets / bathrooms are the worst i've ever seen in a hostel ( I only travelled in european hostels from now on)

Pros: Rooftop terrace gives better views than some mid-price hotels (and prices aren't unreasonable either). Multilingual staff are both friendly and helpful. Location: it's 5 minutes walk from the bund. Price for dorms: £5 for a a clean, large 8 bed dorm is excellent (also when considering its location) Cons: Shower rooms on 4th floor were dirty and stank. Often no hot water in showers (fine in Summer, nightmare in Winter).

This place was awesome, for it's location near the bund for such a cheap place it is well worth the money. For the most part the staff was helpful and we met a new friend during our stay. I would come back!

+ the staff did reluctantly help us with a problem when we first arrived. The toilets and showers were fine. The bar was amazing but really overpriced. - My locker wouldn't lock. We saw a couple of small cockroaches. We were asked to move to another room for the second night. This was a 3 person room (for 5) so 2 of us had to sleep on campbeds. We asked if we could rent towels. We were told to wait till the afternoon. They never came. The new room had towels but they took them out!
