The Carruth House is far from being perfect, but that's what made it perfect for us. When you walk up to the house you already feel like this can be a home and once you get welcomed by Heidi inside it's for sure: this is a home! This house is so full of character, with so many cosy and comfortable places to sit. You can enjoy your breakfast at the sunny oriel, in the darkwooden greatroom or when it's warm on the front porch or the big backyard. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back.

We had an excellent stay. The rooms were beautifully decorated and full of character; the brochures generously provided were very informative. Heidi was most thoughtful in her advice and offered insights the brochures didn't provide - such as finishing the Freedom Trail by taking the ferry back to the city - a magic end to a long day of walking. I probably should have started with the breakfasts - these differed each day and were absolutely delicious.

Friendly and helpful host, delicious breakfasts (no formal dining room--take a tray to the great room or the sun room), a beautiful historic house that is undergoing cosmetic renovations but is very comfortable.

The place is a famous, New England home with admirable rooms, and great views from the top floor. The breakfast is gorgeous and something different every day. The walk to Ashmont subway station is less than 10 minutes and the trip to central city about 20. Heidi is very welcoming and helpful and made my stay a very memorable one. For those coming in jetlagged, there is Sleepytime tea waiting for you ... the the lavender drop on your pillow will ease you into a relaxing first night.

When you travel by car this location is very good. Parking is free and public transport is close to the house. Breakfast was very delicious, and the house and her owner are very nice. Conclusion: recommendable.

Had an amazing stay at the Carruth house. Heidi couldnt have been more welcoming and she provided a service beyond my expectations. Im a solo young female traveller and i never felt unsafe walking around the neighbourhood at night. the breakfast was exceptional and she insisted we ate alot... which wasnt hard with all the amazing pastries and muffins. I found my room to be exceptionally clean and the bathrooms always available. fast internet was an extra bonus. Thankyou Heidi

The breakfast provided was exceptional and second to none. The house had loads of character even though its a work in progress. Heidi the host was most helpful and informative.

Carruth House is so full of character it could be bottled. Heidi (the landlady) is wonderful and describes the house as a work in progress and there are small areas which need decorating and tiling but that is part of the charm. She was so full of advice she was better than any tour guide and her breakfasts are the best we have ever had anywhere. It was like staying with a friend. We had our own key, use of a huge TV lounge and only 5 mins.from the underground (known locally as the 'T'). Lovely

Hello Heidi, we enjoyed the stay in your house very much. It was nice to have breakfast in the garden and to talk to you and other guests. Quiet different to a hotel. More fun! Evi and Dieter 14.9-16.9. 2011

This was the first time we had used Hostelworld and the stay at Carruth House with its unique character was wonderful and added to our expereice of Boston. Heidi was warm and welcoming and made you feel one of the family. She provided us with a lot of local information and was a great host. Breakfast on the patio was a wonderful experience and we thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with Heidi and the other guests.

Heidi is a wonderful host! Bottle water on arrival and a quick explanation of where to find things. She made us feel at home right away. The Carruth House is conveniently located near the T (Boston's public transit), and around the corner from local pub and authentic irish butcher shop. My husband and i felt very safe walking in the neighborhood that is full of character and wonderful old homes. We enjoyed the non-tourist location. Heidi's breakfast rivals a five start hotel. Two thumbs up!
