Good place to stay for 1-2 nights, no more. They write all these great things about their breakfast and I saw none laid out in the morning. I didn't even know which where the "free breakfast" was or whether I was taking other people's stuff. We did see a few tiny scorpions crawling about. Very windy at night; felt like the entire house was going to fall apart or fly away.

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed it. We didn't have hot water one night, but we spent most of our time outside anyways. If you get the room with "sky light," you should know that you can't really see anything through the ceiling/roof windows, but the light will come in. Also - the upstairs room we had was right next to the kitchen/common area, but people were generally respectful and quiet. Walking distance to everything in town.

staff were super friendly and helpful. a very chill place with clean rooms. close to the supermarket and most tour companies will pick you up here. no reason to pay more to stay in santa elena.

I have no idea how this place is because 3 hours before our arrival the owner cancelled our reservation by email! The only way we found out was by luck as we stopped at a coffee shop with Wi-Fi on the way to Monte Verde. Terrible service! No email back to confirm if they refunded the deposit

Hostel was very conveniently located, walking distance to town, and the bus to Monteverde national park is right across the street. Staff was very helpful and gave us great tips to restaurants, tours, and directions. Hostel has a lot of character and has free breakfast at the shared kitchen, where you can meet other travelers. Rooms were basic and clean, but it was hard to get enough warm water for the shower, probably for environmental reasons in CR.

This hostel is what I would festive as average. It is safe and a good value for a private room, but the walls are thin and the rooms are loud. The kitchen is too small for more than one person to cook and staff were cooking their own food frequently. The kitchen gets very messy in the morning for the"make your own breakfast" but that is the guests not the hostel. The staff are friendly and make sure to ask about the fig tree!

Casa tranquilo is not new or flashy, but it has everything you need and it's fun. And it's cheap. The staff is awesome. David helped me arrange transportation from La Fortuna, and got me schedule on a coffee tour before I ever arrived. Estaban helped us once we got there, and suggested great places to eat, and other things we could do in Monteverde. Also, he's beautiful ;) I'd definitely stay here again if I make it back to Monteverde.

We were there for two nights and appreciated the helpfulness of the staff who gave us good tips on tours, buses, markets, and a nearby sloth. We were disappointed that the toilet that was broken was never fixed while we were there. The kitchen was dirty and bedding was stained. However, it was a great location, very cheap, and had great character.

Even though we only stayed here one night, we really enjoyed it. Within the first 20 minutes of arriving the staff arranged a canopy tour for us and we had an awesome time. The hostel has a unique layout and really interesting rooms. We would love to stay here again.

The best part about this place was the staff. They helped us with everything. They had great suggestions and gave us discounts on everything. Would defiantly recommend this place.

This place is beautiful. (In fact, upon seeing it, we immediately added an extra night to our stay.) The staff went out of their way to help us, and the kitchen was stocked with plenty of food for the included (do-it-yourself) breakfast. It's centrally located in Santa Elena, so you'll have no trouble wandering around town.

Out of 25 hostels and hotels we have been in south and center America that one is THE BEST HOSTEL yet!!! The room was large and well decorated, the kitchen was well equipped with all you need, the common era is comfortable, the WiFi is really fast! The place is clean, and well organized. But above all, the staff David Estevan and Natasha will mack's you feel like a part of the family! They are lovely! Very chatty and love to help and don't forget ask Estevan to take you to the strangled fige!

Very welcoming hostel with friendly helpful staff who can help organise buses to other destinations as well as recommend the best activities in Monteverde. Rooms were clean and spacious. Kitchen was well equipped and free breakfast (eggs, bread, fresh fruit) was a bonus. Perfect location in Santa Elena - very close to supermarkets and budget friendly restaurants. Only a short $2 bus trip to Monteverde Cloud Forest.

This was the best hostel we stayed in while in Costa Rica. The staff was amazing and we felt very much at home. Emel took us each day we were there to explore Monteverde and see areas that we never would have seen if we had explored on our own. He is also an amazing cook and shared his delicious recipes with us. Everything was very clean (I have never seen young men clean so well) and it was easy to make ourselves at home. I recommend to anyone, including families!
