Having stayed here 2 years previously, I was happy to see that the hostel was recently refurbished, the facilities were all very clean and modern, and our private bedroom was cheap but very basic. However it was impossible to find a hot shower on such a cold November night. They were all freezing which was quite unpleasant. Also myself and my partner barely got any sleep because of people shouting and running in corridors at all hours and workmen on the roof. Don't think I'll be back.

the common areas at Castle Rock are some of the best we've seen in our travels and really create a great atmosphere to meet other travelers. The facilities are awesome: huge kitchen with several stoves ect, great bathrooms and free wireless as well as desktops available for hire. The location is perfect and the staff were good.

The staff of the hostel are great and the whole place is very clean and welcoming. The common rooms have a great atmosphere, especially the vinyl room in the back. Free tea and coffee is a plus, pool table for 20p in the big room and the kitchen is huge! Rooms were clean and quiet with a great view off the back. The Internet was a bit slow but all in all, a very lively place and the location can't be beat! Would absolutely stay here again.

Bed sheets had some weird stain on it, and the rooms got really cold at night. I would say the staff was excellent, except for one guy employee in the front desk who was just rude and extremely condescending-something tells me the guy only works there to hit on hot foreign traveling chicks. The upside of this place is that it's situated in the best location. Pretty much right in the center of all things Edinburgh-important.

It was such a great time to stay there. there is several reasons. the first thing that make me feel good was its location. I can go to Castle easily, because its's near the Castle. and second thing is kindness. so, I'm totally satisfied wtih it.

It was really nice hostel. Especially the room is clean and staff is kind. but it didn't have toilets for girls, it was mix of boys and girls.

This was a overall great experience for me staying here. The location was perfect (right by the castle) and amazing views of other sights right from the windows. The decor and beds and lounge area was super-fun, esp being a younger adult and all. This lounge area was nice because of the free coffee/tea/cocoa to just chill and meet others. The staff were great, super helpful and even helped get us set up with a free guided tour that I would TOTALLY RECOMMEND! I would def come back again.

Awesome hostel, easy to see why there are so many long staying residents. Never got bored with movie nights and pub crawls. Highly recommended.

This place seems to have figured it out. It's huge. but great attention to detail. Good, big, organized kitchens. Great location in the shadows of the Edinburgh castle. Free newspapers, coffee, cocoa, wifi. Halloween party was a little wild, in a good way.
