Spacious room, high ceiling.Great view out of the window.2 electricity plugs per bed which was very good.Best hostel shower I every had.Clean.Free security lockers."posh" decorations.Guy at the reception had a very strange sense of humour, which at first always confused me, but was hilarious. girls at reception very sweet and helpfull.Loved the movies.Free hot chocolate.Made some great friends in my room.Only bad thing were the annoying spanish people living there who made me feel unconfortable.

It will be good if the hostel can supply towels instead of getting us to pay for extra 20p. I cannot see the restaurant or breakfast provided at a cost. It will be good if there is some sign for this. Staff is friendly and explain to us what is good to see in Edinburgh and various tours available. The room is very clean and tidy. Hot water in bathroom is brilliant. We enjoyed our stay.

To much to rave about... This is by far the best hostel I have stayed in and will be hard to beat. Huge common areas to relax and socialize, heaps of showers/toilets, hostel is kept very clean, awesome beds, huge kitchen area, perfect location, 20p pool table,music room, this hostel is also run very well by the staff which are fantastic. had the best time and will be going back for sure.

Very nice hostel, just below the castle of Edinburgh. Good room and very clean and confortable bath.thumbs up for this hostel!

The location is amazing,outside the window you can overlook Edinburgh the whole city, and just step out of the hostel stands the castle. The inner facilities and decorations are also good. Just one shortcoming, there's no charging forcet inside the room,we have to go to the common room for 1 hour every night for charging.

I liked that we had our own lockers. I did not like that we had to share a bathroom. I thought the bathroom facilities should have been separated for women and men.

Castle rock hostel is very good hostel 100% recommended, we're four people and we're enyoyed a lot....

The hostel is very nice and the staff very friendly. The only inconvenience i saw it´s that there are few computers for internet, so you can´t never check anything as it´s always busy. The rooms are normal, beds not too bad but my room was to warm. They could put curtains on the bed like other hostels i´ve been as the rooms are for lot of people so getting sleeping it´s pretty hard. Anyway, i would recomend it.

I liked the hostel very much, especialliy the sharing areas like the kitchen, the cinema room and the library room. Very clean hostel and I liked that the rooms had rug on the floor.

Best location ever! The views out the windows were spectacular and the castle was right across the street. The staff were all super friendly and really helpful, I couldn't say anything bad about the place!

It's a great place to stay, I definitely recommend it!!

Excellent hostel and location... Free hot drinks are +!

I'm not quite sure why this hostel is rated so highly - yes, the location is good but our room was tiny with a sloped roof which meant that you could only stand up in about 50% of the room. It also meant my feet got crushed in bed as the roof sloped down over the end of my bed. On the topic of beds, top bunk had no railing so you risk falling out and breaking a few bones when you roll over at night. The bedsheets were sewn together like some sort of sack you lie in (or straight jacket).

I really enjoyed my stay at Castle Rock Hostel! The staff was so friendly and there was so much to do within the hostel which was such a nice change from other hostels I have stayed in! A beautiful view of Edinburgh Castle and close to the Royal Mile-overall a great place to stay!

If you have a problem here YOU ARE TOO YOUNG FOR TRAVEL( regardless of your age) or possible you always look For the bad. I Was so Amazed at the way the Hostel was run and how I was treated. I went to Edinburgh for a weekend get a way. I would come back to be treated in this special way. I was going to Take a cab as I arrived late. Their directions were simple and right on !!!

I'd definitely recommend it, especially for its location and its price. Lots of fun in the common areas too.

Disaster. They did not have hot water, I took the coldest shower of my life. The rooms are not like the ones they showed in Hostelworld. The staff is not nice at all. It is totally overpriced. I will not come back here again ever.

The 12-bed dorm we stayed in was very spacious but based on other reviews, it seems that not all guests are equally lucky. The location of the hostel is great and its staff helpful. However, the Wi-Fi access can be slow and frustrating to use during peak hours.
