The Stay was only over night but The Hostel was Everything you would want it to be with very helpful staff.

Rooms are segregated by gender instead of traveller type so I was put into a room with long term tenants, who woke up at 5am every day to go to work and spent the rest of the day laying in their beds and watching movies. The TV was dominated by people playing single player PS3 games or by elderly Asian people watching Chinese TV. The kitchen/lounge were segregated in different rooms meaning there was no continuity. Staff had fights with each other, overall VERY uncomfortable

Central backpackers is an ideal place to stay if you are passing through Dunedin or staying for a little longer. The location is fantastic, the staff are very helpful and have great local knowledge which is always a bonus!! The rooms have everything that you will need and so does the kitchen and bathroom facilities. Having stayed in quite a few hostels during my travels over the past year, this has to be one of the all round bests and worth the $$

It's a hostel that is in the middle of the town city area. Very convenience. Love the free wifi! They have a lovely cat too =) However my friend drop his tripod stand at the hostel. May i just ask if any of the staff happen to see it. thanks!

Incredibly disappointing experience in a 10 bed mixed dorm. Security was non-existent with dorms possessing no locks and the front door only being locked at night by door code. There were lockers in the dorms, but these were unreachable due to the mess caused by the people working for their accommodation. The social disregard by these people as they listened to their radio throughout the night and switched lights on while the other 8 people slept is a disappointing error in judgment by staff.

I would honestly say this is the best hostel I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world - the atmosphere there is so pleasant you feel like one big family. They even have their own cat, every hostel should have their own cat!

10 person dorm had large lockers, comfy beds. Nice kitchen/dining area setup. Nearby street parking is only free at night/on weekends. However, this was my second worst stay out of 43 (now 50) hostels I have been to in the last five months - there was no staff at night when five drunk retards came back to our room and turned the light on at 4am, kept being loud and obnoxious, and made irrelevant comments about their pathetic sexual life when the rest of us tried to get them to quiet down.

I enjoyed my stay at Central Backpackers. The location was very convenient for my needs, the staff were friendly and helpful and I felt that there was a good atmosphere. Bathroom was clean, cooking and dining facilities were well set up and quite spacious. Cat added character.

Provided everything you would need from a hostel. Could do with a bit more kitchen space, not much room to prepare your food. Furthermore, could do with slightly bigger bathroom facilities, not many showers to go around. Room was nice, lots of natural light. Overall was fine, would stay here again (although I might get lairy if somebody stole our milk again!!).

hostel is generally OK, free wifi, negative experience: the reception tried to sell expensive trips to destinations without telling that (cheap) normal buses are also going there

Loved this place - seemed brand spanking new, everything was super clean and awesome. location was ideal, just off octagon in centre of dunedin. bed was super comfy, kitchen was adequate...would have liked internet access other than wi-fi but that's just being fussy!

The dorms don't have locks in the doors. The cat is cute but whether it walking on the kitchen surfaces is so hygenic? The location is great tho, right in the centre of Dunedin and despite that there is not a whole lot of noise.
