I cannot really make any comment , i have been only two nights, we arrived late around 10 pm , the office sent us a door code and an envelope with the keys, then the next day we had a tour to Port Arthur, then i pay the remaning amount of money then we left the very next morning, the staff seems to be nice, but the only negatif part was the cost of the room, for just 2 single beds, and a wardrobe sharing shower and toilet, I find the price a bit to high .

Pretty good. The building is old but the hostel is cheap which compensates for that. Common room area is large and fairly nice. If you're going to arrive late then remember to email them beforehand if you need linen or a towel.

Thank you very much for the great ratings and productive comments. It would be great if people could let us know - if you are arriving after 7pm, please let us know if you need blankets left out for you.

Pretty decent hostel in the middle of town. Very well located. It's a little hard to find the entrance at the weekend though. The actual entrance is down the side alley by the bank. The beds are a bit weak though. I was on the top bunk and the person on the bottom moved a lot. The frame was a bit weak, so it rocked my bed a lot. This kept me up a bit. That was probably the only down side to this hostel.

Thanks for the compliments and the ratings. And thank you very much for letting us know about the beds. Room 301 is very busy all summer, and the beds can work a bit loose. I have a maintenance guy going into the room tomorrow to tighten up all the beds and sort that out. Thanks for letting us know.

WiFi didn't worked during the night. Blocking youtube, ok... but why other bad sites aren't blocked too?

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank for commenting. The WiFi has been temperamental for about 6 weeks now, but will be sorted within a week or two. We have to replace the entire system with something more stable. Thanks for taking the time to comment and for the good ratings.

nice place to stay, cant get any more central that this! kitchen was great, bathrooms good too. rooms were nice if a little basic. only faults were the internet not being in the rooms, only in the common area and it kept dropping for a long time too. could also use a bit of work to renovate as its a little old. had a good stay though no major criticisms!

Thank you very much for the compliments. Yes, the WiFi has been temperamental for about 6 weeks now. The techs are just not helping us out. We are completely replacing the system now, but thats going to take a week or two more. Sorry that it affected you.

Staff were really helpful and friendly, location is perfect but the place itself could certainly do with some TLC! We were only there for one night and hardly spent any time in the room so it was fine, I couldn't stay there for an extended period though.

After a hard summer we are giving the old girl some TLC for sure. Thanks for the compliments and we are happy to have helped.

central location, the room was spacious, but the common area was not that clean.. still worth the money spent.. staff was really nice..

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank you for the complients. We do actually clean the common areas 3 times a day during summer but still it can get away from us. It feels like the mess can build up behind us as we vacuum! We are very happy you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the high ratings.

The 12 mixed room was horrible but I stayed another night later and the girls bedroom was nice and made it the experience better. Bathrooms were really gross. The carpet seemed sketchy

Owner Comment (Show)
Hi, the 12 bed mixed dorm can definately get messy, so we do empty it regularly to clean it thoroughly. We wish people would help us out a little more. We are glad you enjoyed the female dorm. We have restored 1 bathroom, and have 3 more scheduled for the next couple of months.

Bathroom facilities and room were extremely poor. Defenitely to expensive for what we got.

Thank for commenting. We have renovated 1 bathrooms so far this winter, and have 3 more to go. Still, our prices are definately relative to Hobart, and we have many positive features that we hope you enjoyed.

The staff were great when I had to move rooms due to a somewhat weird and aggressive room mate, but there could have been more done to organise hostel events between guests staying there each night. The atmosphere was a little lacking but brilliant location! The hostel can certainly do with some renovations, while the beds are fine and brand new it's common areas, bathrooms and carpets that need to be replaced and the hostel could benefit from switching to swipe keys...

Thank for taking the time to leave such an extensive comment. Thank you for the compliments. We are happy to have helped with a wierd guest. We have got stuck into another winter of renovations, repairs and maintenance. We really do do everything that we can afford each year. We have renovated 1 bathrooms so far, and have 3 pegged for the next couple of months, and we have at least 3 rooms getting new carpet. Unfortunately we simply cannot afford swipe keys! :-(

I stayed here with my girlfriend while travelling Tasmania. It is a very old hostel and our room was tiny with barely enough room for our bags. Hostel is located on the 2nd floor of a building and going up and down the stairs with our luggage was challenging. Big common room with loads of seating and quite places to skype. Kitchen was big with loads of storage space for food. I have stayed in The Pickled Frog and Hobart Hostel on a previous visit to Hobart and they are of a similar standard

Free wifi a definite bonus, even if signal a bit patchy. The place could do with a spruce up but was perfectly adequate.

The bathrooms were in a terrible shape the taps in the showers were leaking, the sink in the basin was blocked. There's paint peeling all through the hostel, mainly in the bathrooms. I didn't find the staff friendly at all and not helpful.

the dorms can be better...nothing particular...seems like a hospital. Not dirty, but not nery clean, the staff in the kitchen and internet doesn't work very good... The good thing is that is big...you have to do better because you have good potential.
