An over all nice hostel with friendly and helpful staff, not the best hostel I stayed at but not the worst either, cleanish kitchen (didn't use it too much) and big TV in the common room, warm water in the shower and not to crowded.

Kitchen not big enough for the amount of people using it. Good location and friendly staff

Excellent staff. Sorting out everything for you. Easy to organise trips and tours from that hostel. Booked 12 bed dorm and had been upgrated into 6 bed. So it was nice thing. Clean and spacious. Free internet coffee and tea. Good prices and good value.

A lot of things were "out of order" (fridge, shower, computers) which made our stay not too enjoyable. Bathroom and kitchen were not the cleanest we have seen...

The kitchens and bathrooms get cleaned 3 times per day during summer, but even then some people make a mess. Sorry for that. We keep on top of maintenance as best we can, but the computers were sabataged recently and we are waiting on technicians. We have FREE WiFi and its a pity you couldnt use it. We are sorry our first Liechtenstonians were not happy with the hostel.

My friend and I arrived late and were happy that getting out room situated went very smoothly. But that was the only thing that went well that night. I think we were put in the loudest room in the entire hostel. It was directly on the street I know street noises are out of their control but there was so many rooms in the hostel I am surprised they don't save that room as a last resort. The bathrooms were also not very clean. They were kind of gross actually.

We are glad that you found everything in your late night check in. During summer we do actaully use all rooms at the hostel. We don't have any spares. You are right in saying that street noise is out of our control, and with every room having an external window (a feature for most people) it is hard to prevent street noise on occasions. The bathrooms get cleaned 3 times daily in summer, but sometimes 5 minutes after they are cleaned, people make them messy. Sorry for that. We hope you enjoyed Hobart.

Had a great time, but would have been even better with operating showers. I'm sure it must be difficult, but having a freezing or boiling shower is annoying.

Hi, and thanks for taking the time to comment. Sorry for the hot/cold (as far as we are aware it is 3rd floor female problem). We have recently become aware of it and the plumber has been notified. Thanks for rating us well, and we are glad you had a great time in Tassie. I hope we helped! Cheers, Pete

arrived late due to a delayed flight. after difficulty getting in contact with the night manager he got angry at me for not being able to get in even though he gave me the wrong code. after eventually getting in he told me to go to reception to get my key but they had left it behind a barrier. poor cleanliness

Old and dirty

Owner Comment (Show)
Yes, the Imperial Building opened in 1870 (and we have 2 ghosts). And we are the longest running backpackers in Tasmania. But we are passionate about our guests, our cleanliness. I am disappointed you found us dirty. I can only apologise and we will continue to work on it. Thanks for taking the time to rate us.

That's funny because we ARE an old hotel. Opened in 1870, the Imperial Hotel was the Grand Duchess of Hobart ... now a backpackers for 18.5 years and 2 with resident ghosts. Thanks for rating us so well and taking the time to comment.

that's huge backpacker.. centre of Hobart city.. But i couldn't connect wifi in my room.. so i had to using internet at living room and Kitchen..

Owner Comment (Show)
Thanks for taking the time to rate us and comment. For any future guests, the WiFi does not reach all rooms. The router is in the lounge, and was intended to be used in the common areas. Luckily it does reach many rooms, and sorry yours was not one of them. Thank you for ranking us, and we take heed of your low scores on security and cleanliness. We do beleive we are very secure with security code access and 3 live-in staff, and I will speak with housekeeping.

Nice hostel in good location. Staff very friendly and helpful and we were very happy with our free room upgrade from dorm to private room. Think it’s good that people aren’t all crammed in together like most other hostels. Free wifi was good and the room was warm. Only negative points are: the kitchen wasn’t big enough for the amount of people that were there. The bathrooms weren’t that clean and no soap provided in toilets.

Thanks for the positive comments and the constructive feedback. There is certainly supposed to be soap in the toilets, so we will get onto that today. And we have just purchased a heap of gear for the kitchen - we can't make it bigger, but we are ensuring it's well supplied so it should be a bit quicker for guests. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. We appreciate it all.

A text to my cellphone with the night code would've been helpful as was travelling all day with no email access, but was told it wasn't done because my cellphone number wasn't an Australian number! Nearly had to sleep outside the hostel.

We are simply unable to text to foreign numbers. It's not that we don't - we can't. We are also happy to tell you over the phone and you could use a good old pen and paper. For anyone reading this, the late night entry is very easy. The emergency managers mobile number is at the end of the hostels phone message, so no-one should ever have to risk sleeping outside. Call and listen to the message with a pen and paper at hand.
