A very nice place to stay. The manager is very helpful. But you have to cross if you want to go to town or to a bar the river "10 Quetzales return And if you are late there is no boot to the island. The prices for breakfast are high, and they have at the moment just one working shower with warm water and only two toiletts in the cabin area. The price for the bus ticket is to Lanquin in Flores is 100 Quetz. and at the hostel you have to pay 150 Quetzales.

The owner is amazing and really aims to please his guests and is always happy to help. Main issue was that to get to and from Flores you have to get a boat, this makes the hostel quite remote (and it is amazingly beautiful with an unbelievable view of Flores) but the last boat is at 10pm, and only 3 other people were at the hostel at the time, so couldn't stay out in Flores, and no atmosphere at the bar. Despite this, would still definitely recommend, especially for those seeking tranquillity.

If you want to stay in a quiet place then this is your place. For us it was a little too quiet but staff were lovely, polite and attentive. The rooms were spacious and clean. Close to everything, price was good. Breakfast was included

First off, golly what a view! When I saw the island from the Chaltunha side, I just about fell over! Now here's the only problem with it being on the other side, you have to find boats, but that's easy

Superb view on Florès from the breakfast tables, nice swimming pool and garden. On the downside, steep ascent from the lake to get to the hotel.

We had a great time Chaltunha, San Miguel. The hostel is run by a great guy called Neil who went out of is way to ensure we had a good time. Don't be put off by the short boat journey to Flores. The ride is very cheap and adds to the whole experience. All in all great value, particularly when you throw in the pool and brilliant view of Flores.

Great hostel, Neil is a great host. Needs a kitchen and would be perfect

Such a good view of Flores! And hostel owner went well out of his way to help us. Got up at 5am in the morning and took us down to the water so we could kayak at sun rise. Can't recommend enough!

Great hostel in San Miguel with an amazing view of Flores from the bar. The dorms are airy cabins on stilts. A very peaceful, quiet hostel. Be advised though that the hostel is a short walk and boat ride (5Q or about 65 cents US) to the town itself. What really makes this place great though is the owner Neil who is very accommodating and works very hard to provide good service. Definitely a place I'd recommend for someone wanting a more peaceful hostel neat Flores/Tikal.

By far the best hostel in our trip to Guatemala. Neil is a great man who runs a great hostel with a well-deserved reputation. The whole hostel has a very nice, laid back atmosphere, and Neil is very willing to help accommodate your needs. Excellent location overlooking Flores and Lake Peten Itza. Neil also has some good future plans for this hostel, so I can't wait to revisit in a year or too and see what he does with the place!

Pros -Ideal location if you want to be in the heart of the action and don't mind the 24/7 noises that come with it. -clean, well-kept facilities Cons -No on-site safety lockers or storage options so you either haul your valuables along on your five-hour Tikal excursion or to your lake swim or you take a chance leaving them in a dorm room that you share with strangers -No Wi-fi signal past the reception area -No more than 1 charging outlet in 4-bed dorm so it's a race to it

Chaltunha was awesome. The pool was a great perk! We were blazing hot and it was nice to come back to our hostel and to take a swim in the clean fresh pool. The rooms however were not as updated as I imagined but it seems like they are updating them. The fans could be replaced as the current ones make no difference in the air quality of the rooms. Niel and his staff are great and helpful. The food served here is more expensive than in Flores but it's really good. The view is beautiful!

Stunning hillside location which gives a feeling of seclusion and peace while still being very easy to get to Flores Island - the best of both worlds. Neil and his wife are extremely attentive to every need, the swimming pool is wonderful, the included breakfast good, the dorms super comfortable and clean and every meal that I had at the restaurant was excellent. Neil and his family have created a real treasure here - I'm not sure budget accommodation gets better than this anywhere.

This place is great! Neil sends you an email the day before you arrive with super helpful info about where to go with a map and a picture. This hostel isn't actually on Flores island...you take a water taxi across to San Miguel. Only takes about ten minutes and your first time over is free. The view from the hostel makes the trip over totally worth it! They have a good restaurant attached to the hostel. They have a nice pool too!
