A good place to stay and relax, but wifi is no bueno and it is hard to find cheap food in the area. No kitchen or outside food. Really nice owner.
Our stay at chatunha was met with mixed feelings. We thought the staff were quite unhelpful, for example we asked to store somethings in their fridge and that was met with a "that is only for the staff". Also we were asked to "refrain from eating throughout the hostel". I think the owners need to decide if they want to be a hostel or a restaurant because all traveller are on budgets and can't afford to eat at the restaurant every night.
Great hostel. The owner Niel is really helpful. The only problerm is that you need to get a boat to get there, but Niel will pick you up for free.

Lovely hostel with a great and helpful owner. Being on an island only accessible by boat is slightly frustrating but the owner certainly makes up for it by taking you back and forth (including at 2:30am for the sunrise tour) frequently. Decent beds and huts. Showers are cold water outside, which isn't really a problem except for bugs late at night.
Neil was such a fantastic host, he works so tirelessly and i would definitely recommend Chaltunha

We had an enjoyable stay at Chaltunha. The location is amazing, on a hilltop with an incredible view across the lake. We were able to ring in the new year watching fireworks all across the horizon! The owners, Neil and his wife are friendly and helped us arrange a tour to Tikal last minute. The bungalow was clean and surpassed our expectations, set back in the jungle. Only problem was a noisy rooster in the morning.
Fantastic. Neil was a great host. The hostel has an amazing view. We needed to leave at 4am to go on a tour to Tikal. Neil was up and ready to take us over on the boat and organised somewhere for us to store our luggage. Highly recommended place to stay. I wish we stayed and enjoyed the relaxing vibe for longer
It should be noted that this hostel is not on Flores, but requires a short boat ride to the other side of the lake. This is a slight hassle but the views of Flores and the lake from the hostel make up for it. The dorms are effectively large tree houses which are pretty, but shake whenever someone rolls over in bed! No wifi in the dorms either. The owner Neil is FANTASTIC though and goes above and beyond to help in any way he can. Good restaurant on site too. Quiet hostel overall.
It was a great stay! We were going to stay just one night, we returned to it to continue enjoying our little cabana we got upgraded from Neil, the owner and operator of the hostel. All staff members were funny, helpful, and quick to any question, even taking us to Flores on the boat at 2:00 am to take our bus to Tikal!
The owner Neil was a really nice guy. He also helps organize bus rides and tours for you without a hefty commission (unlike almost any other hostels in the area). The view from their patio is also very nice. With that said, the hostel is a boat ride away from Flores, and there are logistical issues on getting to it: it's hard to find the water taxis, and they stop running around 11pm. It would also be good if they added lockers to store valuables.
Chaltunha Hostel was one of the best hostel experienses I have had anywhere in my years travel. Neil & his wife were gracious, inviting hosts. The view from atop the hill across the lake was great! I had the good fortune to be there over Christmas when the city below lit the sky up with fireworks. The cabanas in the woods beat regular dorms hands down. The hostel had a restaurant which served really good home cooked meals.
I really enjoyed my time at Chaltunha Hostel...it is a must stay when visiting Flores and Tikal. I became great friends w the owner Neil and his family. I can honestly say that it was one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in the world (and I have stayed in 100+). You just won't find this kind of value at many hostels on earth. It was truly a great experience and I know the hostel will only get better and better. Keep up the great work!!!
Very helpfull staff. Quiet place. Wonderful view from the terrasse. There was not much atmosphere, missed plants, cosy light, entrence needed paint, rooms need to be redone. It smelled old, dam. The pool did not look clean - did not like to jump into it. Sure that it by time can become a wonderful place.
This hostel is not on the island but has a beautiful view on the island. To get there you take a boat for 5 min. It's beautiful and definitely worth it to stay here! Neil, the owner, is very nice and helps you out with whatever you need. We had a hard time withdrawing money so he let us pay later. Also, when you book a tour or bus ticket via him, he will give you a lunchbox. Very easy, especially when you go to Tikal because you can't buy any food there! Great place!
Had a great stay here, the view was amazing. Dorms were kept clean. Staff were awesome hard working people :)
We arrived with Neil picking us up on his boat and taking us to his beautiful property, which had the most unbelievable view of Flores and a nice pool. We chilled by the pool ate a lot of delicious guacamole and drank panty rippas, which are the only drink you can get in Guatemala! Highly recommend this place if you're on a budget, you'll be blown away!
We had a lovely relaxing time here. The pool was fantastic, the owners extremely helpful and the atmosphere lovely and laid back. Thanks!!
Nice cozy bungalo and the owner is a very nice guy who can help you with planning your next steps and is very knowledgeable and reliable. Great value for money. Its a short boat ride from flores but worth the distance because its nice and quiet and away from the loud cars and bustle of flores.
