Absolutely amazing place. Everything from pickup by the owner to sadly being dropped off by the owner. The hospitality was by far the best I have every experienced. Even better than any 4 or 5 star places I've stayed in. The owner was kind enough walk us to his boat an get us across the lake to his hostel upon arrival. He also helped us with safe accommodation to Tikal next morning. Cabanas were great, bar and pool was laid back and best of all, Beautiful view. Thank you everything! :)

Noel went above and beyond our whole stay, as the hostel was a 2 minute water taxi from flores he was more than willing to drop u of places and help book things! The swimming pool was a highlight and the restaurant food was good and well priced, very heap accommodation for what you get! Would 100% recommend staying here!

I have to say I was THOROUGHLY pleased and surprised with Chaltunha. The grounds were pristine and gorgeous, the rooms spacious, well-protected against insects, well-ventilated, and well-placed. The atmosphere was relaxing and tranquil. While I can see where it might throw some people off that it's not in Flores proper, the owner pretty much does everything to get you there, so its no extra effort, only takes about 5 minutes to get to the front door and has a GORGEOUS view. Two thumbs up!

We loved the Chaltunha Hostel, it was one of the best accomodation on our Guatemalan trip. The hostel owner Neil went above and beyond provinding us with very valuable information. The location is superb, on a hill facing the Lake Peten Itza. The cabanas are surrounded by exotic trees and flowers. The swimming pool is perfect for cooling off on hot day. Neil booked us a tour to see the Mayan Tikal ruins and tooks us on a boat trip to the Lake Peten. I am strongly recommending staying at Chaltunha

Defiantly the best hostel for visiting flores. Sitting on the porch of the cabins really feels like staying in the jungle (in fact we did see a monkey here!) Neil and his family were very accommodating and helpful. We had a mix up with our reservation (our fault not theirs) and Neil was great in recommending another place for us. The views from the bar over flores are amazing and the water taxi across the lake is very easy.

The owners and the staff are so helpful and friendly. They were able to help me with my travel arrangements within Flores and to other parts of Guatemala. The cabins are wonderful and charming and the dorm I stay in was lovely. Bathrooms are located in their own shed area, so be prepared to have some kind of lighting device to find your way during the night. There isn't much in terms of restaurants and other shopping needs in the area, but the hostel has a restaurant on premises that closes at 9

A hostel with a great view of Flores

100%

Our main concern was the distance from everything else in Flores, but that's really not a problem at all. It it is only like 2 minutes boatride to the island. Owners are super nice couple, the cabins are great and the pool is nice little extra for after Tikal cooling off situations. And the views are great from the restaurant! We booked sunrise tour to Tikal through them with good price and expectional guide. Very good knowledge of other trips as well. Highly recommended.

Hostel was way out of the way, had to take a 5Q ferry everytime to get to the main island of Flores. Then it was a hike up a high hill and through some not too good roads. I wouldn't recommend it as a place to meet people or a place to stay if you are looking to get to Tikal. Stay on the main island of Flores not San Miguel. Though the view of Flores from this hostel was night.

Owner Comment (Show)
Well folks I am really sorry about this review. As you may notice this review says nothing about the hostel and just talk about the hill, the road and the boats. This was really a young person. I help a lot on her questions. Gave information on many different cultures in Guatemala. But there is really not much we can do about the hill, and the boat.

Very organised and clean place. The couple who are running the place are very helpfull. The hostel is not directly in Flores, you have to take a small boat over the lake to get there. So there is also more sound/noise of animals during the night. One can like or dislike it. It offers for sure a great view.

Pros: The view from the restaurant/bar overlooking the island is AWESOME, and the atmosphere is so chill. There's a nice outdoor pool and some super comfy hammocks to lounge in. Neil & his staff are incredibly kind and helpful as well. Our bungalow was comfy and clean. Cons: The noise at night was bad. It's in a fairly residential neighborhood, but there was always music blasting. Also tons of stray dogs barking away the night. Overall great stay. Thanks Neil! (PS we met Shaggy in SanPedro!)

Neil and his wife are vey welcoming and can set you up with buses to and from pretty much anywhere. The hostel has a great view, good pool to swim in and clean little huts for bedrooms. Wuld recommend before los amigos in flores. Make you way across the lake ( 5 quetzales) to san miguel where the hostel is. Well worth it and comes to about $6 CAD a night. Good Value

Great hostel with really nice and helpful staff. Slightly inconvenient it's nr right in town but is also really great to relax for a few days and enjoy the view over the lake from the pool. Great place to stay though search for food in town because the food whilst good is a little small on the portin size for the price. Overall really great hostel with carrying staff.
