Free breakfast, free bbq, and a ride to town in a Hummer Limo!... What more can I say!?! As a Kiwi being a tourist in his own country I would like to be more critical, but this place was great with awesome staff. Cheers guys! DC
The best hotel in NZ!! The staff are amazing and i just feel live i was at the right place. Fire show at nignt. I had also a good time to the Blue Ice bar. Free shot if you can climb the pol and kiss the cilling.

Had a good twin room with a shower, TV, fridge and kettle for a cheap price, that is very hard to get in NZ. they offer free soup at night, but be quick because after 15 mins its all gone and they do not make another. Free b/fast in the morning but not the pancakes advertised, free wifi which is very good. The only bad thing was the laundry, because there are so many people at this place it is hard to get a free washing machine and then even harder to get a dryer, Start washing early in the day
We only stayed one night. For the cheap price it´s okay. You get free wifi, free popcorn and an excellent man on the front desk. Unfortunately the kitchen was really dirty!!
Friendly front desk staff. Room was clean enough though had a weird smell. Kitchen was quite dirty unfortunately and often crowded. Free wifi was nice when it worked. Free vege soup was also nice but get there early.
Not the best hostel I stayed in NZ. Kitchen is not clean, neither are showers and toilets (probably because they are not enough for all the people). The LoveShack is separated from other building, therefore quiet; I'm not sure about the other ones. Staff was not very helfpul giving information about reservations and tours. Good points is that internet is free and breakfast was included (rare in NZ), although very simple (just cereal and toasts). Good option if you are in a tight budget.
Great hostel! We loved the free spa spool and the relaxed atmosphere! Staff was really helpful and cool! Big kitchen and TV lounge with free DVDs.
Friendly staff, free wifi and free breakfast and dinner! Never seen that anywhere else so cheap. Loved chateau Franz.
Our room was nice, but the kitchen was just gross.
Wifi was sort of sketchy when lots of people were trying to use the network at the same timeh; it was free, though. No lockers in the dorms, although the rooms did all have locks. The "Love Shack" double room was decorated hilariously! It's nice that they served breakfast.
Free breakfast which was a bonus. Super close to everything. Not the cleanest but not filthy.
Bit of a miz up on ourbooking so first night we had to share a bathroom although we had booked a private bathroom. This was sorted out the next morning and we were happy.

Decent place, seemed fairly roomy. Weird bathrooms, but they were fairly clean. Great location, easy walk to everything worth seeing.
Cute hostel, close to town but franz is tiny so you can't be far anyway! Reception staff really cool and friendly and helped us out with places to go. Free popcorn which was cool. Had a crazy little double room shack thing, was clean etc. just a bit odd ;) the dorms looked ok, kitchen was small but clean, free wifi a bit annoying as v.slow and only works by reception so lots of ppl just sitting around making it hard to chill and talk to people
The hostel was not very clean und smelled bad in some areas. The pool was a joke! It had a smell of mould that I couldn't imagine how anyone could dip a toe in it. The free vegetable soup every day is a nice gesture.
Perfect base to see both the FJ and Fox glaciers. The staff were extremely helpful in arranging a day trip over to Fox. I enjoyed my stay here and would strongly reccommend. It is comfortable, clean and has good facilities. Free breakfast is provided, as is soup in the evenings for guests. It is also one of the very few places I've stayed in NZ which offers free & unlimited wi-fi too, which is excellent.
A homely offering serving up a lot of added extras not often found at hostels in NZ. Dorms are comfortable if a little cramped, but the kitchen and social areas are clean and well used. Good place to meet people over the free breakfasts or free evening soup sessions. Free wifi is also great. The hostel is located in the town just a pleasant stroll from the glacier.
Good unlimited internet in the common area (but not at peak moments between 7 and 10PM) Comfy beds Good tv room and well equiped kitchen Very nice extra's like complementary soup and breakfast. Like all hostels at Franz Joseph is the location excellent.
Huge, comfy rooms and really friendly staff who will spend ages giving you heaps of advice. Thanks for having us! :)
Free soup was ok, had to be quick for the tasty treats. Big kitchen. Breakfast was useful. No shelf to put soap in the shower. WiFi didn't work.
