had a problem with hotwater and a lot a noise.
The biggest problem, that was promised beforehand, was that there would be internet, but it just worked one place.
Great hostel in the tiny town of Franz Josef. Free breakfast and soup in the evenings is a god send on a backpacker budget!
Ok stay, we stayed in the love shack, which is an old camper and smells like mildew. It was interesting and different, but overall I wouldn't stay here again. Staff were very friendly and location is good.
Chateau Franz was awesome! The staff were super friendly, helpful and very accommodating. I really enjoyed staying at the hostel and if I pass through Franz Josef again I'll be back!
One of the best/favourite hostels we've stayed at.

Made to feel very welcome with my two friends.Got free bbq and wine, when we arrived. It was Halloween and the owners put on a great party. They dressed up themselves and got into the spirit of things by playing a stick game outside with us. Free breakfast and soup also.
It feel like home :) Big kitchen and dinning area. Warm and clean rooms. Sky TV and great collection of DVD movies. Laundry and drying machines. Cool staff. And they've just started to serve FREE breakfast :) Great location to do the trips or tracks that are around! Good value for money!
very 'cutesy' hostel. great vibe and helpful friendly chilled staff. free soup dinner each night which got us all together (not that many people staying there when i was there) but really enjoyed my stay here
I loved staying here, the staff made me feel welcome from the start. My room was clean and the communal areas were cosy. My only disappointment was that the main kitchen was closed from 10am sometimes until after 11:30 for cleaning along with the bathrooms which made it difficult to make breakfast after a lie in. (There was a second kitchen but all food was in main kitchen) but overall my stay was comfortable and I was very happy with the service :D

This was an OK hostel i guess, but it was not very clean - the bathrooms could use a real scrubbing. The same goes for the kitchen - which also could needs some more utensils and glassware. Hot Tub was a bit cold, so not really comfortable to sit there. Good dvd selection.
The staff could have stepped up their game a bit. A tad more enthusiasm or something. I was also given the wrong information by two different staff members on two different occasions and was left short of money to pay the bus driver because of it. The morning I had to leave I had to catch an 8am bus - reception wasn't open to check out, which is ridiculous. What if I had to collect a key deposit or something? Other than that, awesome hostel.
Nice place, comfi beds. great common area. Kitchen has lots of facilities. bathrooms had wet floors most of the times. the backpackers building was just very badly secured, seeing that every one could just come in
