Please beware! This hostel does not offer free wifi - they advertise it though... Confronted them with this lie and got a strange explanation that didn't made any sense. Push hard enough and they will give you a free voucher. This hostel is pretty run down - it needs renovation. It is not dirty, it is well maintained for it's age.

The hostel has a lot of mice. Heard them in the night. Really loud.

Hostel is located just a few meters from the place a bus dropped me, very convenient. Staff was kind and very informative, they also cook evening soup. Reception is not open 24h. I stayed at 6bed dorm, 3 bunkbeds, room is spacious but there are no lockers. There are two showers and toilets per floor. WiFi is for 3 NZD, which is like one of the cheapest wifi to be found in New Zealand.

On hostelworld it says they offer free wifi - but they don't! Even though I asked they denied that. However wifi is quite cheap: NZD 3 per day. Two neighbouring hostels offer free Wifi. Their rooms might be more expensive though.

Especially the kitchen facilities fairly poor. No good pots and pans.

This place was good enough. The room was average size (5 bed dorm). Liked that there was a good sized common room with lots of seating and big tables with lots of seating in the eating area. The kitchen was also good sized. The kitchen though was pretty dirty. The other hostelers didn't seem to clean up after themselves very well, but the whole place seemed like it needed to be maintained by staff better. Otherwise, I liked the feel of the place - the style actually reflecting that of a chateau.

Really friendly...and very helpful in helping to rearrange travel plans when the torrential rain took out the bridge on the only road north!

There weren't nearly enough power supplys for 5 people in the dorm. Had to spend the rest of the route to Queenstown with no camera...

The staff really stand out at Chateau Franz. Super friendly and helpful, even when the whole world was drowning in rain. The hot tub/spa is the perfect way to finish up a day on the glacier. The beds were comfortable and the lounge was a good place to chat with people. Only suggestion I have is: more plugs! There was one in our bedroom and none in the lounge.

The front desk staff were pleasant, knowledgeable and cooked each day a soup for the 6PM dinner time. They called in the shuttle for the sightseeing. A very pleasant place with good surrounding view of the peak of the mountains.
