The young front desk staff is really friendly and laid back. Check-in is kind of disorganized, beds not ready etc. Apparently at the Che Lagarto hostels, it is better to pay in dollars- you lose money through some kind of money 'exchange' when you pay in reals. The bathrooms could have been a lot cleaner, and the lockers are really tiny- your lock probably won't fit. Nice and close to the beach, in a beautiful old home of some sort, it's in a pretty good location in copa.

The hostel location is great, 5 minutes walking from Copacabana beach. The bedrooms are ok, a little bit small in my opinion. The staff looks not prepared to deal with the tourists, we had wrong information about places to eat and bus routes. The worst thing in this hostel are the washrooms. In the second floor was only 3 toilets which also included the shower for 12 people at least, the place was very dirty for most of the time, the bathrooms were cleaned once a day.

I found the hostel way too expensive comparing to its rates. The staff was very inefficient and took me ages to do the check in. I also didn´t like the fact that you could only check in at 2pm, I thought this was very late and did not want to leave my belongings to reception while going out myself. The rooms were quite small and there were no lockers to leave your bag or suitcase. They also charged extra for using the internet, even if you didn´t use it.

I disagree about the internet charge. It isn´t fare for guests that we have to pay $R 5 for that service that it was supposed to be included in the daily fare.

My check in took out about 45 minutes by a guy who was a trainee. He did not have anyone to help Him out and I got stuck in the reception for a long time. On top of that I had no key to get in the room. The key was given to me in the following day, which they made me change room as well. Organization and having a trainee staff is a must.

the location is perfect just couple of blocks away from the Copocabana beach. The stuff is really friendly and helpful but check-in takes some time. The check-in time should be little earlier than it is.

Bad place to stay! Dirty bathrooms, no places to put your luggage safe, they wanna charge you for internet even if you don`t use it, it`s an abuse! Never again! There are better hostels in Rio.

Upon my 20 day stay I had the chance to get to know the hostel, its surroundings, staff and atmosphere very well. It was an awesome time- the hostel is 2 blocks away from the beautiful beach, it offers many great trips and adventures, such as the City Tour, Hang Gliding, Favela Funk Parties and Boat Parties, as well as a yummi All You Can Eat BBQ on the lovely pool-equipped rooftop. Furthermore, they make the most awesome maracuja caipirinhas :) The hostel is next to bars, stores, metro and bus.

The place is awesome, its very well located and it has a great character. The staff is also very friendly, BUT, they don´t know how to serve the customer. When I entered the place it took almost 40 minutes until someone could complete my check in. And then I had to switch the room (at 11AM) and it was, again, almost 40 minutes so someone could tell me what to do. And the answer: "Sorry, but I still don´t know where you are staying. You need to wait until 2PM to find that out." Not very clean...
