It is a dynamic hostel full of music, parties and young people. If you want a family peaceful weekend, this might not be the best place for you. But if you are young and on holiday, it´s a place you need. I had a double room which was tiny but OK. The cleanliness wasn´t 100% but nothing extreme either. I would easily stay there again.

We stayed in a double room with private bathroom. The hostel has a nice terrace and small swimmingpool. Staff is helpful with tours. They organise dinners which are good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was ok. Room was ok but we had a bad smell here. The shower had little pressure and can be improved. Overall good hostel.

A great place for backpackers and lots to do, just misses a few touches that would make such a difference - floor matts by the showers to stop the white tiles getting filthy in an instant; sorting out the insect issue so when people are eating breakfast they can do so without being attacked to death by insects! But all in all pretty fair

An ok hostel - staff weren't overly helpful, dorms were average size, the bathrooms in dorms were disgusting and smelt really bad. I asked the staff if we could have ours cleaned and they said that the cleaners do clean them everyday - although I don't think this is the case as they constantly smelt like a men's urinal. The meals that the hostel put on every night are really good and great value for money. There are probably better hostels in Paraty though...

Our hostel room was akin to a swamp. We stayed for four nights in a room where the aircon didn't work, nothing dried and the shower door's seal was broken (ensuring a mini flood any time one of the 10 inhabitants showered). On the last day of our stay, there wasn't any fruit, bread, jam, milk or coffee out for breakfast. The dorms were locked: only accessible via one key available from reception. if someone had forgotten to return said key, we were simply instructed to "wait".

Great hostel, great staff, great activities available and they go the extra mile - for example make sure you do the jeep tour and the dinners are also nice. - Tyler from California

The hostel was totally clean, comfortable and easy to hangout in. The staff were absolutely great and always super helpful. It was a total breath of fresh air after having few... less than satisfactory hostel experiences recently.

We had two rooms, one of which didn't have a/c so we all had to sleep in the bunk room which did have a/c. Laundry took longer to come back than they said it would. Excellent breakfast with lots of fruit and lots of choice. Good position near bus station and centre of town.

Che Lagarto has a great party atmosphere, and is a great place to meet people. The hostel is clean and offers transfer services. The wifi works, but is slow and only in the reception area. Air cons work and are what you want in the humidity of Paraty (especially during summer). Location is good, close to the bus station and the old town. Would recommend.

The rooms weren't very clean, but the hostel in general is good. The common areas are great. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is okay. I would definately recommend the waterfalls jeep tour.

I booked this hostel through hostelworld and then a day before got an email in spanish saying that there was a confusion and they didn't have space for me for "tonight". i emailed them back to see if it was just the first night they didn't have space for me and they didn't respond. Once I got to paraty I met a few other people who were double booked, most of which hadn't even gotten an email. When they showed up there were tons of people who were double booked and they all had to fund a new plac

No worm (not to mention hot) water at all. WiFi not working except sporadically if one is standing next to the reception desk, but not even than most of the time. Very loud, a lot of door slamming, shouting, arguments, etc amongst the guests. Overpriced for what it is.

Che Lagarto is a big hostel and it could be a bit impersonal. Breakfast is very busy and kind of poor. Rooms are not very clean. The staff is all right but since they are pretty busy they are not very helpfull. The matress are old and they've got fungus. I highly recommend to take the boat excursion with them. It is cheap and you visit amazing places. Especially the little island where they drop you for lunch. The best part of the hostel is the common aerea with great atmosphere.
