This place was fantastic! The location was perfect and I always felt safe. It was so neat to see the variety of people who stayed there. So many from so many different countries. It was very clean and hey free breakfast! I was so pleased with this place especially for what we paid. A true blessing!

By far the best hostel I've stayed at in Manhattan!! Great location, safe area, beautiful street, close to subway, super clean, friendly staff. I don't understand some of the bad reviews, it's not a luxury hotel, but compared to other hostels in Manhattan it's way cleaner and cheaper. Yes its a lil noisy - but so are all the other hostels in NYC! Also have a sink in every room, plus hooks, shelves, and locker to put your stuff in, and free breakfast - awesome!! Will definitely stay here again.

I would definitely consider staying here again, primarily due to the location. I really enjoyed having such privacy and our own bathroom, though a bit more effort in bringing guests together would have been appreciated. The staff was helpful, but not as involved in the social aspects that I feel are truly characteristic of hostel atmosphere.

There was smell of bleach during all the day and the night in our room, since there was no air conditioning and we couldn't open the window because we were in the basement and everybody could see inside. During the night, at 3 a.m., we found the room flooded with smelly water coming out from the bathroom. For this first night, we had to move to a room with no bathroom (also if we paid for it) and we had no reimbursement for that.

very very nice. if you book early you can save a lot of money - we had a private 3 bed ensuite and enjoyed it very much. nice courtyard, good free breakfast. staff seem annoyed sometimes but that's ok. the kitchen is very very small. the location is perfect if you want to see the city, chelsea, greenwich village etc, instead of times square and 5th ave.

A well-thought-out use of available space. Fairly clean (staff clean it daily, but some guests clearly are used to having their mothers clean up after them). Only one electrical outlet in room (behind the other bed), so not so easy to charge phones/computers, etc. Wifi only available in common room, which closes very early. It is debateable to say it has internet, as one can only sometimes use it. On the whole, it was a good place to stay, and I'd go back.

the atmosphere was very chill. It was also a very helpful location for exploring Manhatten.

Great location. Good coffee nearby at grumpy's. Free breakfast. Staff were pleasant, though the layout of the hostel meant that there was not much interaction with staff. Communal area did not have any tv or games or anything, though I preferred this as I think it makes it easier to talk to and meet people. Excellent location- close to subway and good areas to go out in. Reasonably priced for New York accommodation. They do charge for luggage storage which was a little annoying. Good overall.

My favorite hostel. Only problem is they were not enforcing their own policy about people leaving the court yard by 11pm. People were out there causing a disturbance for hours-well into the morning. I eventually woke up enough to called the staff at the front desk to complain and they did take care of it after I called. I just hope when I come again they will better monitor the area, so it will not be a problem. In the future. A problem like this would be a game changer.

Do not stay here, unless all you want is a quality focal point of the city to put your bags. I suggest sleeping and showering elsewhere for fear you'll contract an STD. The bathrooms are filthy. One toilet was left clogged for 2 days whilst people still used it. There was blood on the pillows. And for what you pay, it's ridiculous! The WIFI sucks. It's only available in the common room and the majority of the time it still doesn't work. My door was also left unlocked by cleaning staff.

Enjoyed my two week stay, mainly because of the people I talked with.

Highly recommended place to stay in NYC. Chelsea is very safe, great for a solo female traveller. Close to subway, good heating in winter (sometimes on the hot side). WiFi is touch and go but usually works. Convenient free breakfast and very nice, helpful staff. Everything is super clean. Be prepared to possibly carry your luggage up some flights of stairs. I'll definitely stay here next time I'm in NYC.

This was an ok hostel for a quick overnight stay. However, the walls are paper thin and it was loud outside all night. My window faced the busy street and even at 3 AM, I could clearly and loudly hear people laughing.
