There was much confusion regarding this booking as I discovered that there were in fact two Chetumal hostels and the warden at the one I went to had no idea of my impending arrival. I stayed at a Chetumal hostel in February In I believe Sylvestre Street and I had been told by the warden of the hostel that it would soon close and she gave me the address of the new one. So when I was in Chetumal at the end of March I naturally went to the new one.

The hostel was easily located and I received a very warm welcome. It was very basic but friendly and clean and I had a good night's sleep. The breakfast was perfectly adequate and the warden was very helpful .ansand dispensed lots of good advice re travelling and buses etc The hostel is relocating soon and I would certainly go there again.

Was a place to sleep for a couple of nights over New Year as the buses in Belize were not running, but very basic, only one bathroom and it is upstairs, paint flaking off and not much for recreation. The lady is very nice. Watch the CAB fare, should only be $2.00 US from the ADO bus station to the hostel, I was charged $5. US for just me going, butonly $2.00 US for 4 of going back. The cabs don't have meters so negotiate price first, hail cab on the fron street, not parked or in the taxi line.

I enjoyed staying at this hostel because the owner was very friendly and there was a nice homey atmosphere and a big soft dog. I could find something to eat within a block. Two major draw backs, however. First, it was difficult to find. The hostel name is not posted and most street signs are missing in the immediate area. Second, the door to the bathroom is broken and very hard to open. I got stuck both inside and outside of it. Most chose to leave it open, as I eventually did.

I LOVE CHETUMAL HOSTEL!!!!! The owner is soooo wonderful and helpful. She informs you of exactly what you should be charged for transportation services like taxis and public buses, as it is easy to get taken advantage of as a foreigner. Great atmosphere! Also, the dog, Kevin Kosner is a sweetie :).
