Very good staff, clean place, nice rooms and beautiful neighborhood. The only bad point is that the hostel is 12 minutes walk from the subway station.
There is one very important thing that people have to keep in mind, which is the basement floor. I stayed 5 nights in the room L5, which is in the lower floor. It's literally in the basement where windows can't be opened. The air is bad since the only way for the air to circulate is through the AC and there were cockroaches on the floor... Other fellow travelers I met there who stayed upstairs didn't have this problem though. It's probably a very bad idea for humans to live in the basement.
Brilliant, met loads of people as everyone was really friendly, likely because of the chilled atmosphere there. Really helpful and cheerful staff
Tidy, very efficient place. Great neighborhood. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and parks all easy walking distance. Travel to Midway airport with convenient L station.
My friend and I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights and were very disappointed. Upon arrival someone was sleeping on my friend assigned bunk, we went to reception to sort this and the man behind the desk just said for us to pick another spare bunk, upon which my friend was rudely awoken by someone stating it was their bunk. It later occurred that police had to be called a whole three days later to remove said person from the premises. We felt unsafe, a complete security lapse.
The hostel it's great! Very friendly and comfortablecomfortable, the only thin it could be better is the bed, it shake too much, if you move, the person below will move too.
Good hostel, just lacked atmosphere. If you search for long enough you will find people to go out with. The hostel's social areas are a little too big and this discourages interraction. They do have good kitchen facilities and the hostel is well kept by the cleaners. Lincoln park is a good area but make sure you make the trip to downtown and sample some deep dish pizza. Good value but not the best option for the solo traveller.
great place! everything you want from a hostel! -they had things happening every night the staff were knowledgeable and very helpful -they a list of things you can do in chicago if you ever run out of ideas -the communal areas were really nice -you get a free breakfast which is really nice (more than just cereal) -the place was kept very clean especially the bathrooms.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Chicago Getaway Hostel. Nice breakfast, decent barbecue on Sunday. All you need is a ping-pong table!! I'm trying to think of something negative but I can't. Maybe the location in reference to the nightlife......but the neighborhood was nice and quiet.
good place to stay the night in Chicago
The staff were amazing! Answered every question nicely and always had suggestions for cool stuff to do. Loved the social events. They really helped me bond with the other guests easily in a safe environment.
Very kind staff and BEST hostel I've stayed in yet!
The staff was super helpful and made my stay a perfect one. The evening activities are great, too. It's not self-evident to do that. In total a very nice time for me.

The hostel is good overall: good location (not in downtown but still a very nice residential neighborhood with lots of things around), the common areas are nice, staff was helpful and friendly. The only thing I didn't like was my room. It was in the basement, which might have been okay on other days. But I was there on a rainy day, the room felt very humid, and there was no AC.
Good breakfast. Nice Staff
Great hostel, great staff, nice breakfast , excellent for meeting travellers & backpackers. I was looking for hostels at downtown but they were full, so I stayed at Getaway Hostel and it was great, altough it´s a 10 minute walk from metro station, 25 minute from downtown - you spend almost 1 hour each day to visit downtown and get back to hostel. Beds are kind of squeaky and I think if it´s a very hot day air conditioning won´t be enough in some rooms. After all, it´s a nice place to stay.
Thank you for a wonderful stay! Clean, comfortable and a nice environment. Extra complimentary cookout was nice. Breakfasts were wonderful - plenty of variety. The whole environment was very welcoming and pleasant! We would definitely recommend this hostel and stay there ourselves again!

Good location, but this is the grossest hostel I've stayed in. The lobby is clean and well maintained, while the hallways, showers, and rooms are a uncared for. I've stayed in hostels all over the world, and this is the worst yet.
My fiancé and I had a good experience at the hostel. We stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom. The twin bed up top was great, but the double bed at the bottom felt like I was sleeping on an incline, so I never did sleep all that well. Breakfast was decent and the bathrooms were clean. The hostel is only a short 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station - very convenient! We'll definitely stay here again on our next trip to Chicago.
