People working there are friendly, but have inconvenient solutions for problems. The major point I do not like, is the mess with the booking system. One person takes in onlinebookings, another the telephone bookings for rooms. I was there only three nights, but I met 10 people in the hostel facing trouble with the booking at this hostel. The same happened to me. (We do not have a room for you...) I am living in Brazil and love it, but sadly I can not recommend this place.

The room we booked was not available. We never really discovered why, they blamed hostel world. The staff seem rather confused and lack the ability to run the hostel effectively. They don't ma reception after 10 and as it's in an intimidating location so if you arrive late you risk not being able to get in as the door is locked. The room we had was also really dirty and hot and backed onto a skip/bin area. We left after one night and wouldn't recommend this place as it's badly ran.

I loved staying at Chill Hostel! It´s a lovely little place where you feel welcome from the minute you walk in. The staff is really friendly and helpful too, especially Anna :) The hostel is located in a nice, safe favela and within 5 min walk from Copacabana beach. The only ¨but¨ i had was a lot of misunderstandings with the price. Totally different price and room from what we had booked on hostelworld so better to phone them up to book rather than doing it via the website. Over all, 8/10.

ok place, up a big fricking hill, near to copacabana which is the only redeeming benefit, plus the staff were awesome in taking us to a parade with the floats, guess being carnival was over busy, too many people and chaotic...

We stayed for two weeks including Carnaval. It was the best hostel we have ever been to! The house is located in a favela, and we found it hard to leave and experience the rest of rio! The house has a really cool design. The terrace is unbelievable, with sofas, a hammock and incredible views. The people are amazing, they showed us around and told us what was cool around town. Other hostels dontcompare. We miss you guys! Rach and James. We will come back and open up Favela Cutz N Linez....

Amazing location, but the dorm rooms are just crappy. The beds are located one next to each other, almost everywhere in the rooms, so there isn't enough space to put your things or to walk. In fact the dorm is connected with the corridor, so u sleep in a place where people walk to and from the terrace. It feels like being homeless, no intimacy at all. The terrace is a lovely place - you can see the Ocean and big part of Copacabana from it.

Staff was rather rude. Reserve through hostelworld and their records did not coincide, booked a double private and appeared 4 bed dorm (quite not the same). They overbook. Drinks are very cheap.

I have stayed here three times in three years! It's the best hostel in South America, most cultural experience in rio! 100% safe never had any problems! Staff are willing to do anything to help! Owner is the biggest legend in the country. It's a family with open arms! The view is 10/10 the price is very reasonable! 3 mins to the beach 2 mins to the shops. BBQ are regular and a lot of fun. Definatly going to go back to chill hostel this year! Thanks a lot for having me !

It was very nice to stay at chill hostel. in the middle of a little favela i felt very secure and was satisfied to see rio nut just from the "normal tourist" side. Stuff was friendly, rooms quiet simple but clean. Bathrooms are for share - also those: clean. Price value is absolutely ok. As an architect fan I'm happy to see, that the owner is renovating step by step the original niemeyer house back. I would definitely come back. The cherry on the top: you have an amazing view from the rooftop.

It was a wonderful staying overall! The Rooftop view is second to none, the guest are usually very friendly wich helps to creat a very good environment where you can feel at home. I have only one complain about one single staff member who could be quite inconvenient from time to time. Every other staff member was very friendly and helpful (even the one person who was incovenient at times could prove helpful at others) and I even miss them. I'll be back real soon because in general it was awesome

This place is a real find! We stayed for a week and loved it!amazing staff and people there. We saw monkeys climbing along the power lines, humming birds and the most fantastic view from the balcony. Will stay there again for sure. It's the best value for money in rio. I can't wait to go back!
