I very much enjoyed my stay at Chinese Box -- originally I intended staying for a few nights, but ended up staying an additional three and everyone here was very accommodating. They helped book my trip to the wall, train ticket, and were very helpful with recommendations for restaurants/routes, etc. Thanks :)

A lovely hostel, Rita lent me an alarm clock so I could get up early for the great wall and my early flight on my last day- very helpful staff! I really liked the pancake evening and their was a great range of tours and the sight seeing info was invaluable. Rooms were lovely and warm too when outside was freezing.

I really loved this hostel. The people where lovely and would go out of there way to assist. The common area was really nice, with loads of travel books, and interesting finds. The room I stayed in was nice, all you need really. I was pleasantly surprised how warm the room remained at night time.

A great little hostel in a very quiet part of noisy Beijing. A fantastically clean room with a heater (really needed in the winter months) and a great lounge area that was really conducive to meeting other travelers. The staff were super friendly and very helpful in all matters (where to go, booking tickets/tours etc) My only criticism is that the shower pressure was a bit weak and hot water was a commodity, but other than that, a great hostel in Beijing

It is not located downtown. However, it is in a nice chinese neighbourhood. At least 8 minutes walking from subway station.

Very helpful staff and a good common room for people to gather and have a nice chat. Toilets and showers are clean and warm. Have good breakfast in the morning. Miss the beers there!! They are cheap and large!!

Stayed at Chinese Box for 2 days. It was a great experience... Our initial thoughts upon a night arrival by taxi was "where in the world are we going down this dark unlit alley". By day, however, you quickly get your baring and realize it is quite convenient to the subway. The hostel is very clean and quite cozy... The family dinner is a great idea to get to know other travelers. Navigating and exploring on your own is easy enough.

It's a nice and cute place, with good quality for the price. It's definitely not the best place ever but it worths the deal.

Such a welcome place to reach after weeks of travel across Russia & Siberia. It's how all hostels shoud be: inviting, cozy, full of character, well-run, helpful staff, something for everyone. (You do need to like cats.) Guests spanned the entire spectrum of travellers, everyone interesting in their own way. So many events organized by the staff, would love to return in warmer weather. The day trip to the Wall was unforgettable and unmissable.

I've stayed at the Box twice now, once for well over a week. I don't think I've stayed at a better all-around hostel anywhere. The staff is friendly and helpful, the place is clean, the free food (breakfast every day, and some dinners) is great. Some people might not like the dashing across the courtyard between heated rooms during the winter, but I don't mind. Good location in one of the less-traveled areas of Beijing; easy access to subway and cabs.

The staff is very helpful during my stay there, and translate all my request (from medicine and cloth) and write it in Chinese so I didn't have problem when tried to buy it on the local store. But must go out to get a shower or to the toilet is quite problem during the very cold temperature in Beijing.

Very good hostel. People nice, everything is clean. Showers do not always have a very strong flow but hot enough. Lockers for everybody. Good space for meeting people, warm and cosy. Just the room next to the living room might be noisy if people are speaking in the living room, but that's the game for youthhostels :)

Really enjoyed my stay :) Great staff, you guys are awesome! Nothing is too much trouble, any questions or help required. Food is really good and the family style pancake, dinner & dumpling evenings are a really lovely touch!
