Citadel is a hostel with a great atmosphere, great location and nice staff. Only, it's quite loud. We had a double room above the kitchen and we could hear everything, and smell all the food that was being prepared.

Location in Old City difficult if carrying large bags but the great view from the room and convenience of being next to the market makes the trip well worth it.

It\'s very charming sleeping on the roof with the moon, stars and view over the Old City but can be rather cold.

The room was dirty as the bathroom and toilet. The staff was not very nice. They also entered my room which was locked, and stole my phone. And we saw the thief on the surveillance camera and he was one of the staff, but management refused to do anything about it. A nightmare stay, never again!

Be aware of bed bugs! After a 5 nights stay I came home with bites all over me even though the beds look clean enough. Staff: really nice. Security: Not the best in the rooms but possible to rent lockers. Roof top: be aware that there may not be any ceiling at all - and during some seasons, it may rain.

There was no hot water, toilet and showers were really grubby, doors on toilets were useless (just a pull aside screen which didn't lock on some of them). A guy had his laptop and things stolen from the luggage area. I don't think clean linen was put on the beds daily either. Location and staff were excellent, rooftop view amazing.

Unbelievable how welcome and helpful the staf is, and also really funny. The hostel lies on a excellent place, around the corner of nice restaurants. But even better is the breakfast in the morning, upstairs. From there on you have a beautiful view over the valley. It is a cosy, easy going hostel I would recommend everybody, young and old. Thanx a lot, we had a great stay!

Rip off! Steer clear. They took the booking & the emailed later to say the room was unavailable & refuse to give the deposit back - their reason? Room not cancelled with 24 hours notice! Go elsewhere & save your money

Hello : I'm not sure you understand how this works ,the hostel doesn't get the deposit ,the website does ,and we didn't refuse to give you the deposit back and that's because we don't have it , and we did email you back saying the room is confirmed but you decided to cancel and go somewhere else ,so I'm not really sure who to blame here ,Us or yourself . Thank you

Lots of charm, excellent Old City location, extremely helpful staff and excellent value for money. At age 61 this was my first hostel experience and it was a very good one!

The hostel has a nice location, with a wonderfull interior design, I just adored the building itself. But the washrooms are so tiny and is together with the toilet (toilet and shower together) which is honestly so annoying..... Im not a fat person, but I could hardly fit in the shower, imagine someone bigger would definately stuck inside. And the rooms are too crowded, not recommended for a longer period...

The room we got was twice the price than what it said in the Lonely planet (which held true for all the other hostels). The room was poor (no window to the outside, no lamps next to the bed, tiny shower in the toilet) and definitely way overpriced, even considered the location. We told the staff when checking out and they returned 60 Schekel to us, saying they could not do more. They must be aware of overcharging -- unfortunately it left a bad aftertaste. I would not go there again.

Hello : It is obvious to me you don't understand season prices ,you came during the busiest season all year ,(passover & Easter ) lonely plant book has not been updated for the last 5 years ,all the numbers in it is wrong and they talk about hostels and locations that has not been open for years , we were nice enough to give you money back because we felt you were unhappy not because we are over charging . Thank you

Unfortunately, this being our second stay within the year, our time at the Citadel Youth Hostel was NOT very good. 9 months ago, we were staying with them, and it was great! But it has gone downhill since then. The bathrooms were in really bad shape. And I'm pretty sure I got bed-bugs from the duvet on our bed. Well, something bit me all over during our 2 nights there. The staff is nice, and I'm sure the kitchen is nice (we've never cooked our own food there.)

Thank you for your review ,but please next time read the description on what you reserve because the website does mention it under description of every room but you chose the cheapest dorm and forgot to look at what you are getting . Thank you

If you're sleeping here, choose the doorms - in reality they're just a bunch of mattresses on top of a roof in the old city in Jerusalem. The view is fantastic, and it's a lot better than bunk-beds in a dusty room somewhere else. The hostel is located in the Old City, which placed you very close to sights such as a the Western Wall/Wailing Wall. Nice staff, nice atmosphere. Would stay here again.

This hostel was wonderful. I unknowingly booked a bed on the rooftop and it could not have been better. They provide pillows, blankets and sleeping bags and it could not have been a better experience--there is nothing quite like sleeping on a roof under the stars in Jerusalem.
