Overall, we loved the apartment. It was terrific to have so many amenities, and the location couldn't be beat! Alan at reception was super-friendly, helpful, and definitely our kind of person. My only suggestions would be that they consider switching up some of the beds - the bunk bed/futon was pretty rough - and get the internet sorted out. We didn't have access in our apartment, so we had to come down to reception during business hours to use theirs. Stellar overall, though - highly recommend!

We chose this hostel to check other options after last year's stay, we took a double private (sharing bathroom) option. The hostel is next to a very nice place, Grassmarket, with 6-8 pubs and restaurants, just under the castle, so the location is really good. You also have great access to the "newer" city center (left, under the bridge). The hostel turned out to to be flats divided into hostel rooms. This was new to us but turned out very nice. Very friendly staff, peace & quiet everywhere.

The location is wonderful, really close to the castle and sited in the old city where you can find also a lot of pubs. Staff is very kind and likely to help. The flat is big and you share it just with other two people, which makes it anyway familiar. However the kitchen could be better and cleaner: the cookers were burnt, the microwave really dirty and the oven as well. It's a pity because it could make the stay even more pleasant. But on overall we recommend city centre apartments!

Pros: Location right near castle and walking distance to everything, apartment style with kitchen and lounge area - lots of space, Allen and Andy were very pleasant, welcoming, and helpful (Allen even walked us to an ATM so we could get the cash to pay). Cons: Our bunk bed mattresses were very thin and hard, sheets need replacing - they were rough and worn, no internet access and I think we chose this hostel because they advertised they had it.

The walls were thin so you could easily hear whatever was going on in rooms nearby. There was a broken shelf and sugar from the past tenant in the first drawer of the chest of drawers.. Which was a might bit strange. Otherwise it was nice. If you're looking for a place simply with a kitchen, a bed, and a functioning bathroom- well this place fits the bill. ALMOST. The bathroom shower's heat suddenly went off three minutes in and so showered in the freezing cold til I was done.

Really, It was a wonderful experience because they gave us more than we were expecting. Beautiful apartments with all enough materials you need for a comfortable stay and economic price. Andy helped us with all neccesary things we needed. If you go to Scontland, the best investment you can do, it is at City Centre Hostel in Edinburgh.

Horrible! Hard to find, and when we arrived, there was no one there, and 2 phone numbers were posted on the door for check-in. Well, neither phone number worked, and we were forced to stay at a nearby hotel, which ended up costing a lot more money than we were hoping to spend. Don't let the good reviews fool you; don't bother with this hostel.

Some areas of the hostel were cold, e.g. bathroom which could have used a rug or a mat in front of the shower.
