Beautiful old building with hard wood floors - not so good, every noise down the hallway and above were heard. Toilets always clean but cleaning was done at 11pm when trying to sleep. I sound like granny but not. Recommend, great location, good value and nice but odd staff.

This guesthouse was a very positive surprise, excellent value for money! Pretty building, clean rooms (a bit small, but ok), friendly staff, great location in South Yarra, very close to public transport, restaurants and shops - i.e. the famous Chapel Street. This is definitely 3* quality for backpackers prices! Clear recommendation.

Really nice and clean hostel, location was awesome with lots of restaurants, clubs and stores close by and also very close to train station with trains to cbd which took less than 10 mins. Would defintately stay here again!

Lovely hostel that feels closer to a hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and a good breakfast. Good location too. We had a very pleasant stay and would definitely return.

Hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The only comment I have that would have improved my trip, is to be made aware of the facilities upon my arrival - like the fridge on site that I could store things. Otherwise, was a good stay as I don't use hostels and this is a new way of accommodation for me traveling alone.

Overall Claremont was a pleasant place to stay. I am afraid that the wifi was pathetic. Connections were very slow and unreliable= often lost. I would say barely okay for email, and near impossible to do much else.. When I was able to measure the speed, I got 136kb/s. I was forced to use data on my cell phone, and another I spoke to resorted to using internet cafes- considering these additional wifi costs, Claremont is near $50 for a dorm room- overpriced. if I had known, I wouldn`t have stayed

The room was relatively small and didn't come with any lockable facilities. I had to leave my laptop downstairs in reception. When I handed it over the person on reception didn't ask for any personal details, I had to ask them to put a name tag on it. When i collected it, I was told there was a whole sign in of valuables processes that has been completely by-passed. Shower and toilet facilities were fair low standard and lock on my door was fairly loose so wasn't comfortable leaving valuables

Great location just next to Chapel St and easy tram ride to CBD. The place had a lot of character and the staff were friendly. Good place is you want somewhere quiet but it is not very sociable. It was very clean but for some reasons, it was so hot everywhere!

The only one criticism I would make of the Claremont is that it does get very hot in the rooms but the fans show that they are aware of this.

This is a well managed hostel. however, when i was in mel, it was 40 degrees, so imagine staying in a room without air condition. i can hardly sleep at night. the room is really really small. location is great, in a lovely neighbourhood, and really really close to train station. free breakfast, quite good.

After doing several guesthouses, i must confess that the Claremont is one of the less bad ! Bathrooms are correct and clean every day, towels are included. Breakfast is OK. Negative points : Cleaning staff ALWAYS shouting and laughing very loud in the morning....and until the evening...imposible to sleep or relaxing. Then, most of the staff is cool but one of them was not very welcoming and not nice at the front desk. About rooms : that's the very bad point : they are VERY SMALL and very HoT!!

+: Friendly staff, very clean bathroom (which was surprising after spending time in some hostels), good breakfast, convenient location (close to train station, shops, bars), free Internet -: small room with no a/c, just a fan, Internet was to slow from time to time

This hostel is a correct one. Breakfast is simple but very convenient. Rooms are small and a little bit old-fashioned. What I didn't appreciate is that we were given a double room that was not cleaned up (someone must have entered in before we arrived). Therefore, we had to change to another room but this one was very noisy because it overlooked on the street (cars and tramway passing).

Very friendly and helpful staff! Great facilities, breakfast is nice, however the lack of air conditioning in the room I stayed became a big issue during 35 degree nights.

Staff were very professional and helpful. Location wasn't great, kinda far from places. It felt more like a hotel than a hostel. It was clean and facilities were good. I thought the dorm was a bit overpriced. The wi-fi was very bad in the rooms. It cut off constantly. The rooms were SWELTERING hot. You'd be sweating after being in there for a minute. It was a nice place but as a single traveller after the people from my room left I didn't know what to do with myself. Ideal for couples I think.

no air conditioning and very noisy, but good atmosphere and comfort

The location is excellent being only a stone's throw from South Yarra train station and close to shops, cafes, etc. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent - choice of cereals, canned fruit, toast , coffee and is included in the price of the room. The downside and it was a big downside for me is that the windows in the rooms only open about 3 inches and there's no airconditioning so it was too hot to sleep. Probably great in winter but definitely not in hot weath

Superb. Stayed in a two bed dorm, which was as big as i'd expected it to be. Comfortable when traveling with someone, maybe not that comfortable when sharing it with a stranger. Depends though. It even had a window to a backstreet with a big tree in the middle, which was nice. Free wifi, included breakfest, great music in the dining area, nice bathrooms, and an overall cool-looking building. Strongly recommended!
