Clean and conveniently located near the train station. Staff was friendly and reception was 24 hours.

Claremont guesthouse was the first place we stayed upon our arrival to Australia and it was certainly the perfect place to be close to the action of South Yarra but it is also in a good position to hop on to the Metro and get into the city center. Our double room was clean and cheap which is always a bonus, the free breakfast was always good and complimentary tea and coffees certainly helped us heal the jetlag!

Everything was excellent apart from the bunk beds squeaking.. But a minor issue as the place was close to everything, great security and easy to find

we enjoyed our stay very much; highlights were the breakfast and dining room; the great location; the historical nature of the building. We found our room to be adequate and the bathroom facilities to be very good and accessible On occasions we found the outside noise loud and inconvenient, part of the location and the need to keep windows open to keep cool enough we judged this as an 8/10 experience ,Thanks for having us

We stayed in Claremont on and off for about a month. We will always remember our stay here. Most of the staff are lovely and helpful. Free breakfast is awesome and we loved playing monopoly in the evenings. We donated a brand new monopoly game to the collection because we couldn't take it with us. Only downside was the lack of cooking facilities but we somehow managed. If we ever need a place to stay in Melbourne again it will definitely be here. Thanks guys!! Steph and Carwyn.

Some of the staff were nice, some were really patronising and rude. It appeared clean until we looked closer. The kitchen only has a toaster and microwave so you can't cook anything decent. Building site behind so was woken up at 4:15am. Definitely not a place for backpackers. Local area full of snobs and people that look down their nose at outsiders.

Wifi very slow (also in the dining/Internet room), especially when several people were online. Ants in bath and in the rooms! No cooking facilities!

A good value place to stay in the city! Rooms were a bit small for my liking, but quite clean. No air con on a hot Melbourne day was a bit nasty.

This hostel is great, very clean, friendly staff, peaceful and quite. The location is perfect, just close to pretty much everything around the city. I love the decoration and vibe of this location. The only downside is if you're looking to meet new people and party this location is more of a play'd down area. Its not loud and party like, therefore if you want peace quite still fun and cleanliness this hostels a pretty good one.

Very poor wi-fi

More upmarket hostel so cleaner and bit more expensive. Standard free breakfast of cereal, toast, juice, tea or coffee.

There is no airco in the room. For the rest it's perfect!

Really nice hostel, very clean bathrooms and kitchen area, free milk and cups of tea, free breakfast, helpful staff. Rooms were fairly basic but clean, towels provided and beds already made up, good to have tv in room but positioned so can't see it from bottom bunk! Would stay here again.

I had a single room and it was pretty nice, also with a TV. The room was clean, the bathroom were pretty clean. There is free breakfast. The door is already locked from 6 pm, a little bit early. The location is not bad, very close to the train station, 10 minutes to the city centre. There was free WIFI, but it worked bad, I tried at different places in the house.

I like this guesthouse - ok twin rooms with tv, towel and soap (nice touch!) Free breakfast! The main downfall is that they have no real cooking facilities and the kitchen closes at 9pm - really could stretch to at least 9.30/10pm. I also dislike it v.much when the school kids are here. They are loud in the mornings down the corridors, some lurking and even took up the kitchen/lounge area! Avoid this time! Also can't see the point in the fridge key thing as no cameras, just bit of a nuisance tbh!
