The top-floor doors which lead to the porch and fire escape have rather uncommon L-shaped locks that are confusing about how to use (a person just needs to pull/slide out the lower part of the "L" and the door will quickly unlock). I incorrectly thought they were electric locks preventing those inside from going out, even in a fire situation. Because the locks are rather unique, and because it's a fire door, it would be good to add instructions on the door about how to unlock them.

Very friendly and generous owner. The hostel itself seemed a bit improvised, but hey

The hostel is in a good location. It is close to the Union and St Andrew subway stops and other attractions downtown. The building is nice. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms have nice fixtures. The kitchen/common area has a nice design. It is well maintained. The free wifi doesn\'t work very well in the rooms on the third floor but it does work well in the common areas.

I enjoyed my stay but unfortunately the breakfast was not what I expected it to be. On the website it says "A breakfast of cereal & milk, toast, jam and fruit..." but there was nothing like that to find in the morning. I asked the staff and they said I could find breakfast on the 2nd floor but I couldn't find anything but a pack of bread. I was dissapointed because I expected to be able to have breakfast.

I travel more than the average person for both business and personal reasons and without doubt I have to say that Clarence Castle is probably the best place i´ve stayed in over the years. Why? Price-so much value for money you are not going to find better, Location-Excellent and central to where you want/need to be in Toronto, Quality-Very good, does exactly what it says, Staff-Danny and Fouzia should write a book on customer service for the other hostels to learn from. All in all-10 out of 10!

This hostel is in a great location in downtown Toronto. Our room and bathroom were clean, and the common area with the kitchen and TV was quite nice. I do have comments which isn't reflective on the hostel, but more so for fellow backpacker. There is such a thing as hostel etiquette. Do you really need to sing in the bathroom at 3am when you get in?? Do you really need to slam doors and rummage through plastic bags at 5 or 6am? I've stayed here before, and will stay here again.

Clarence Castle is a great, clean, non-partying hostel right in Toronto's Entertainment District so for my weekend getaway it was a fantastic location. It was blocks away from the big theatrical productions, next to the Skydome, in the shadow of the CN Tower and handy to public transit.

Really enjoyed this hostel. Exceeded every expectation I had for a great vacation. The hostel was well kept. It had several kitchen areas if you bring your own food you can cook with no problems. The hostel is kept up very well and the room we had was very nice. The best area Clarence Castle excelled in was customer service. The staff was really nice and welcoming. The were able to help us with directions around the city and always greeted you with a smile. Price was beat most hotels in the area

It's a nice location and nice rooms with a bathroom to each room. The kitchen is small, but just what you need and a good place to socialize. There's also the common room, with a big tv for movie nights etc. If you speak french, this place is perfect as the service will improve instantly.

The Clarence Castle is a very good hostel to stay. It is very clean with modern facilities and furnitures. The bathroom are super clean and has free wifi across the building. The rooms are also quite large. The location is near downtown Toronto, and has many wonderful shops to visit. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

CC exceeded my expectations at all levels! I stayed in a private ensuite room for three nights. First of all, the place smelled like soap! A refreshing surprise as I have stayed at hostels that smelled like smoke. The place was nicely furnished with comfy beds, well-appointed bathroom, and even a flat screen cable tv. A great deal compared to the hotel that is a block away and charges twice as much. I had no problem get
