It was noisy. My room was facing the road, and lots of the patrons stood out front drinking most nights till 4am. All the rooms facing this noisy road were the private rooms.Inside was quiet.

The hostel was dirty, noisy and quite unpleasant. Really don't think i'll be staying there again and I won't be recommending it.

Great fun! Something going on every night and easy to meet people. Good for drunkenness!

Loved the themed nights - our was twister and bad taste! I dont quite think the staff expected some people to have such bad taste! Loved this hostel!

Room was poorly cleaned, sheets were not changed, dining area was always dirty (the kitchen was not as bad), some washrooms had soap, some didn't. Lights were out in the bathroom on the third floor. Other patrons were screaming (blood-curdling screaming) at 2am.

My girlfriend thought the pancakes were excellent, great transport to the Melbourne city and super friendly staff. On an unrelated note, the Melbourneans seemed weirder than Sydneysiders, particularly those living near and around the hostel. They didn't cause us any trouble and admitted they were weirdos, so I guess they were harmless enough.

I won't stay at Coffee Palace again. Although the location was good, our bed was very uncomfortable as it was broken and sunk in the middle. I kept waking up all night as every time our neighbours turned their tap on it made a loud noise in our room. The kitchen was always a mess, although I do realise that this is up to the backpackers.

All i can say is, if you want to stay around lots of cool down to earth people from around the world just stay here. The atmosphere is amazing so chilled plus its in a fantastic location for coffee shops, boutiques, places to eats and for the lovers of art. I would HIGHLY recommened this hostel (plus the free pancakes) it is a great place to be in Melbourne!.   Read Owner Comments
