The 4 bed dorm I stayed at had no windows nor space for luggage and the door couldn't be locked from inside. I was lucky to stay there in midweek so as to be alone, but I wonder how it could be possible to stay there with 3 other people in such a small place. The collective bathroom had no toilet paper nor bins. Beds also didn't have sheets to cover yourself, only the mattress, at least. However, I've seen the 6 bed dorm looked much better and the breakfast was great, if you wanna try...

This is a very basic hostel. |Good if you are spending alot of time out of your room. Staff are helpful but the more portuguese u speak the better for you. If you are not to worried about very basic room facilities and want a good location then this is the place for you. the area of ipanema is beautiful to walk around and there are many small cafe/bars to spend your down time. I particularly recommend Zig Zag near La Zona supermarket, it's one block in from ipanema beach.

My scores need a couple footnotes. Staff was great, though the whole "pay in advance using Western Union to a random person in Brazil" thing was a bit sketch, but I checked in fine without doing that. Breakfast is great. Prices were very high given the holiday, otherwise "value for money" between Avg and Good. There are many tiny things this place can do to make the stay a LOT better: soap near sinks, space to just put your stuff down, etc. Location is great, near beaches and busy streets.

The 5 beds 2X2,5 ms room was horrible, looked like a jail. I paied more to have a 5 bed room and I got a jail without bathroom inside. It maked no difference in staying in a dorm or 5 beds room , you have to share with all the floor (almost 40 ppl) a bathroom with just 4 shower (only 1 with hot water) and only 2 with water (the other 2 where not available) The only shower with hot water from the 2nd day one was opened without any privacy. The beds where really unconfortable.

Really great staff, especially Bernardo and Charlie will really do their most to make your staying perfect. But be sure to book an ensuite room, because the shared bathroom is terrible. It is not the most social place to meet other travellers, that could be improved, but the location is perfefct between Copacabana and Ipanema a and it is a secure place as well, so I never felt scared. The breakfast is wonderful but it would be god if they could cover the fruit with nets to keep the flies away.
