A very good supportive place. The owner is a great man, shared lots of helpful information on the local life and ways to get around on budget, what to see etc. The place is shared by both short and long term stayers. The free broadband WiFi is rare in Melbourne and very nice to have. Good value for money. All the adapters etc were available. Staff cared about making my travel experiences good. The room was a bit cold, but I asked for another blanket, and slept well all 3 nights.

Every night I can smell someone was smoking outside my room or near the kitchen. Staff were nice and willing to help you.

Having never stayed in a backpackers styled accomodation before my friends and I were not sure what to expect. We were greeted with great customer service and a friendly smile. . We spent time with more permanent backpackers at the hostel and they were so welcoming and friendly. Seriously one of the best times I've had was staying here. We were promised that we would love the stay and we did. If I need to stay in that Melbourne area again I wouldn't hesitate to book again :-)

Hostel is well located only a few blocks off the 86 tram route that will take you directly into the city. With great rooms, that give you space to store your stuff and not feel as if you are cramped with 20 plus people in the room. Clean showers, ample kitchen storage in the fridge and shelves, free wi-fi throughout the hostel along with a small computer room for those without laptops. In all the hostel feels like a large houseshare rather than a big business hostel.

I definitely loved this hostel! I recommend it to everyone. Most often there are people in this hostel who stay for a longer period what makes that you quickly know all the people in the hostel. It really feels like home. Location is perfect too, close to the center. It's also located in the most nicest area's of Melbourne, Fitzroy. Lots of nice shops, bars, cafes ect. Collingwood Backpackers is a number 1 for me! :)

Collingwood is a small backpackers, but the people here are close knit and the whole hostel soon come to feel like a family. It doesn't have the activity nights or shining facilities like some of the bigger ones, but the group is so close knit that you end up organising activities amongst yourself anyway. Compared to the large, impersonal hostels that you'll find all over Melbourne, this one definitely gets my recommendation. Free wifi is a big bonus too.

This is not just a backpacker, it's a family !! It looks like at no other !! It's a special place really cool ! We don't stay a lot of time because our trip in Australia was ending, but it was a really great moment... All the staff and the peoples who lives in are amazing ! We recommend it for young people who want to stay a long time or not in Melbourne. Their a lot of goods cafes and restaurant near it and a Keith Haring paint, just few meters from it !!

Staying at this hostel is like visiting a friend who asks you every morning How's it going?, sits down to have breakfast with you and discusses about various topics, who is not obsessed by cleaning but makes sure you are not covered in dust, who likes to have some drinks during the weekend and take you out partying, who offers you a home-like environment to have a good nights sleep in or just relax with a book. The building is not new, but why should it be, as all the people are just awesome!!

I had a great time in my week long stay here. Staff is helpful with all sorts of tips, free internet and Wifi, Only had to wait to use the shower once... I loved the area that the hostel was located in. Loads of great restaurants, coffee, pubs etc in the neighbourhood. Easy tram ride to get into the city. I would recommend staying here for sure, and would go back if I'm in the city again.

Really enjoyed the hostel. Loved the relaxed atmosphere and the facilities and people were spot on. Also good to have someone in charge who knows the scene around Melbourne work wise and entertainment wise, would definitely come back.

It was disgusting! The bathroom floors were always covered in water and mud. And the floors in the room were covered in sand and dirt. The entire place stunk of smoke! I will never stay here again!

The hostel has a vibe that makes a new traveller immediately feel at home. The people who stay in the hostel are very open and friendly and Paul has a fantastic attitude towards running a hostel, If I didn't have free accomodation I would have stayed there for the majority of my time in Melbourne.

Great hostel, with good facilities (the free internet access being a big plus). The owner, Paul, knows his way around (useful tips) and is full of good stories. It's a very homey and cosy hostel, with a laid-back atmosphere. Being a small hostel, it's a good place to meet and hang out with people.

It's a wonderful hostel I have ever stayed! Owner of the hostel and receptionist are very friendly to me. Except their transport facility, it is really quiet and peaceful place. I appreciate Paul deeply for his advice of my career in my future. Besides, the two cute cats, Tiger and Lily, I always miss them. I think that I will choose to stay here next time when I visit Melbourne

It's a magical little hostel. Paul, (the host), is quite fair in dealing with guests and the patio is very lovely with stone bricks over the courtyard. There are enough facilities for use in the hostel the kitchen is small yet practical with a gas stove, and microwave. Guests seem to come from all over. Not a hostel for families with small children for sure there are certain erotic images around the main hallway and TV room of the hostel which aren't suitable for children.

Best hostel in Melbourne by far! After 1 day I made up my mind I'm gonna stay here for a few months. Staff is great, there is a relaxed vibe. Nothing like to big commercial driven hostels in the city center and St Kilda. Good price, no extra payments afterwards for using a computer or wife or whatsoever (I hate that...). Don't come here if you are looking for a hostel with the best facilities and cleanest (bath)rooms, but when you're looking for a nice place to stay for from home.
