Paul is hilarious and sets the tone for the hostel. It mostly filled with long-termers but they are all very welcoming and inclusive of people that are staying a short time. It felt like staying in someone's house rather than a hostel.

Best hostel I`ve ever stayed at! I loved the atmosphere. Everybody was very friendly and open-minded. If you're travelling alone this is the place to be.

This hostel is geared more towards people trying to work long term. It may not be the cleanest place, but the owner, free internet, comfortable bed, proximity to the CBD and access to public transport make this a great location to stay at. I give it a very high recommendation.

This hostel has better ratings than it deserves. The staff were not very friendly but rather weird. It was quite dirty, I don\'t think the rooms were ever cleaned. The location was outside the city, it didn\'t feel safe to walk there at night. My food got stolen from the fridge.

Owner Comment (Show)
I am sorry that things didn't work out for you during your stay, however, our hostel rooms are cleaned and food left in fridge unmarked and not properly stored like yours was, is disposed of when cleaned,\ - like we explained to you - not stolen. Collingwood is located 1 km outside the city center and we cannot change that for you. I accept your comment that we are "rather weird", something that we are proud of and has helped us gain the high rating that all our other guests think we deserve.

This is what all hostels should be like- friendly, relaxed and charming. Definitely worth staying for a while if you looking to make friends and find some travelling companions.

When I first arrived, the owner sat me down and put me through a series of questions. You're literally hand-picked, and as a result, you stay with people you'd want to stay with. Collingwood is different from other hostels, it's more along the lines of a shared house.

The hostel has a very family-like feeling to it. It has brilliant common area/courtyard and a very relaxing atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and has everything a backpacker needs. It's the place to come if you want a genuine Melbourne experience. Definitely recommend staying here.

This hostel has a very unique atmosphere with great people. It is recommendable for people who would like to stay long-term and look for a place which can be called home even though it's far away. The staff (Paul and Robert) is in particular outstanding by caring about every single guest and trying to help as best as possible.

I was extremely surprised. Nothing too impressive on first glance but I ended up extending my stay there due to the excellent location and the fantastic people staying there. The hostel itself has great character and has a very relaxed vibe to it, the location is just a couple blocks from a great neighborhood full of great restaurants, cafes, and pubs. The staff are great and easy to get along with and the long stayers were friendly and welcomed me in, which really made the whole experience

Small hostel, which is somehow a bit different. Personal atmosphere, but mostly long term residents. Cleanliness is ok. Walk and tram to the city centre takes about 20 min, but there are still numerous bars, shops and outlet stores around.

I wish I could stay longer, but I'm coming back in March, so no need to be sad :) It's a very funky place with the most friendly staff. Your first impression may be a bit different, but you will soon change your mind. There were only two things I didn't enjoy - the smoking which is allowed in all common areas. And then I wish some girls in the room would be more considerate in the mornings/evenings, when the rest is still sleeping. But that's the people's problem, the place itself is great!!
