This is not your typical hostel, it has the heart, soul and feel of one big share house as most people are long term stayers. Unless you have a sense of humour I would steer clear as the owner Paul will have you crying with laughter and his side kick Rob is a legend no matter what time of day or night. Location is great, amenities are more than suitable and I’ll be back for sure.

Incredible place- management and owner are fantastic, and really helpful! Clean, secure, and just minutes away from melbourne's attractions. wouldn't stay anywhere else, and couldn't recommend it more highly- Thanks collingwood!

Loved this hostel! The atmosphere is great and the people were fantastic! Had an absolute blast. Rooms are a good size, location is great. There are lockers in the rooms for your stuff. The kitchen is a bit small but totally manageable. A great place to go and meet people and just chill out. Feels more like a share house then a hostel.

I stayed at Collingwood Backpackers as a gap until I found somewhere permanent to live in Melbourne. At first glance I was a bit wary. No individual keys to each room and quite old looking place and a lot of smokers. But after a couple of days it felt like home, like a massive sharehouse, and I booked to stay on longer. It is a great place to stay if you are hanging around long or short term. The staff and other residents really look after you and it has a great atmosphere. Great location too!

If you're working in Melbourne for a few months, this is a great place to stay! A lot of really friendly people are staying here who are doing the same. If you're only staying for a few days, it's not bad. Everyone is still very nice, as is the free wifi. They really do try to keep it tidy. The kitchen has enough room for a few people to cook at one time, and there is plenty of fridge space for all your food. Also, the shower across from room 1 is the best one! Shhhhh.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Located on Collingwood area, nearby Fitzroy in one of the city’s diverse eating enclaves, gourmet pubs, hip ethnic eateries and lively nightspots to dance the night away. Facilities are alright. Mostly suits for long-term stayers. People are very friendly though.

What makes the Collingwood Hostel bearable is the people staying there & it's location. It doesn't have that feel like nameless people are coming & going everyday. The cleanliness was not very good like most hostels; often the floor in the bathroom had a muddy residue & the kitchen needed a thorough clean 3 times a day. The staff made me feel very uncomfortable this was the reason why I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.

One of the best atmospheres I have experienced at a hostel and I have been to many. The location while outside of town is in the much cooler area of town and there are plenty of bars nearby. Another excellent bonus is that Paul the owner is very cool, helpful, and the free internet all week is brilliant. By far, the best hostel in Melbourne I've stayed in.
