This hostel had cosy little Ecuadorian style rooms and a good common area. It is closer to the Old Town which is less dodgey than the Mariscal area. I really like it and their breakfast was yum. My only complaint- they have electric showers which means that you get hot water, but not much pressure which means you become pretty cold anyway.

Not quite as goof as we expexted it to be considering other reviews but adequate nonetheless. Staff are very variable - one excellent guy who speaks very good english but some of the other staff are considerably less helpful. Internet very slow at times.

Great hostel, awesome devoted (volunteer) staff that goes out of their way to help you! Thanks, Exe, for frying our eggs exactly to our wishes! ;) (and for everything else) Extended our stay by a night but apparently only the owner has access to the hostel sites to update availability and they took so long we had to move rooms from a double to a dorm. Owner, please trust your staff and let them handle things like that! Other point: the showers (electric) are hard to get warm. Would stay again!

$10 each for a private room for a couple is a great price, nice having the common room but its freezing cold in there! Internet was very spotty and could use more bathrooms on the upper floors! noise from the street was loud in the mornings and the curtains didn't keep any light out. doors on the rooms weren't sound proof at all. but everything else was fine.. definitely good value for money!

I have spent two weeks here so far and if I didn't like it, I wouldn't have done it. The owner and the volunteers are very nice people and helpful as good they can. It's central and clean. Defintiively good value. I won friends here, I'm defintively gonna come back.

Nice hostel, beds were comfortable, wifi worked well. Bathrooms were a bit small. Staff were super friendly and willing to help. We booked a private which was big and spacious and had two beds in the dorm which was very cozy.

The staff were very helpful! They set up our (amazing) jungle excursion. The (extra) breakfast was satisfying also. People commented on the safety of the area, but we had no problem. The only downer was the fact that so many people had to share the same bathroom, so you had to wait for a while or run to another floor to pee or shower at a busy time.

Our room at the back of the house, right next to the kitchen did not have a window, thus when people cooked, it became unpleasant. The door and its locking mechanism did not close properly. The mattress was so well used, it was almost impossible to find a comfortable spot between the springs to find a little bit of comfort. The bathroom had a constant smell to it.

We had a great experience at this hostel. It is a nice, quiet place to relax and is only a 10 minute walk from the main part of the historic centre. The room was spacious and clean and there are plenty of kitchens for use. The staff were very friendly and more than willing to help and give suggestions.

Our stay at the Colonial House was pleasant and comfortable as Hostels go. The staff was excellent and the breakfast was very god also. I plan on returning on my next trip to Quito. The cab driver waiting at the airport was a welcome relief after a day of flying and arriving late at night in a strange city.

I love this hostel. I keep going back. It is in a great location... 5 minute walk to the historical old town. The beds are big, the showers are hot, there is a good little kitchen and multiple common areas. The staff is wonderful, but they speak limited English. I have found this to be common in Ecuador though.
