A lovely hostel on the outskirts of Quito's old town. Fantastic garden and chill out area with hammocks. Pretty basic kitchen. Good sized private bedroom although in the day itgot colder than outside! Can definitely recommend.

Nice hostal. Arrived at 6:00 am off a night bus and the room was ready for us, which was nice. Clean, cheap, good location.

Family of 3 (2 adults, one 10-year-old child) found this a comfortable stay in a convenient location. We had a private room with shared bath.

We are a couple in our 60's and don't usually stay in hostels but thought we'd give Colonial House Quito a try and were very glad we did. We loved it here and would highly recommend it. The staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful, location is within walking distance to the Old Town and about 3 blocks from what some describe as "the best pizza in Quito". The hostel is old but clean and we felt safe there. The breakfast was impressively tasty and healthy and only $3.50 each!

Average run down place in hard to find location, one night we didnt get any sleep at all, kept awake by campers drinking and shouting in the garden untill sunrise. This lack of sleep spoilt the first few days of our trip.

Struggling to think if anything really positive to say. American girl on reception was helpful but that's about it. Shared bathroom was awful. Smelt vile. Kitchen was small, with just two hobs and looked dirty. Wifi connection poor. Only curtain in room was a net curtain. Oh and during a thunderstorm it rained in our room! Not just a tiny leak but proper catch the water in pots. Room had not been cleaned properly since last guests as old rubbish was under the chair.

We didn't have a window to outside, but the Most annoing Thing is, that the door of the Rom is not really closable, you hear everything from the reception and the other guests, especially the doorbell, that also rang through the night. When we turned on the shower, there were Sparks, because the electricitycable was just hanging arround!and they charged us for the Taxi from the airport 30 Dollar, which is normally 25. not nice!

A good location and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Street can be noisy at times.

Okay hostel, the location was okay, the staff didn't really seem to know anything about the local area, buses, atms, food etc. The outside kitchen is poorly equipped, and wild animals come in at night and roam. It's really hard to get hot water. Not the worst but could try harder.

Great helpful staff (who are travelers themself). Our room was a bit on the cold side and taking a shower is a pretty cold experience even though you can get hot water most of the time. The staff helped us with travelling suggestions, booking trips, and calling taxis. Perfect place if you want to meet other travellers in the same situation.

Spent three nights here. We had our own bedroom and bathroom, as well as access to the rest of the facilities , including the kitchen. The staff was incredibly helpful with recommendations and directions, and they arranged a taxi pickup at the airport for us. The hostel is in the center of the colonial center of quito within walking distance to most of the important sites. Strong wifi signal. Only problem was lack of hot water, but this didn't really affect our stay. Highly recommend it!

In total it was an amazing experience. The staff is really nice and everyone tries to help you with whatever you need. I met the owner and she is super nice. One staff member seemed a bit iffy on being able to speak Spanish or English which was difficult but someone else was always there to help. Also the rooms do get a bit cold and night. A heater might be a great thing to offer.

It's a very interesting property. The breakfast for $3.50 was fantastic! It would be of note that the "twin shared private" is a room with one double bed (we were expecting a room with two twins). The staff were very friendly but most of the regular staff spoke very little English and the staff casual staff who spoke English well were actually volunteers staying at the hostel for free so didn't know much about Quito or the hostel. The washrooms could be cleaned more often, had a bit of an odour.

Our room had a view of the basilica, amazing!

Huge old building in a great spot in the old town of quito. We had a private room out in the garden which was big (two double beds) and quiet. The hostel is quite big - there are lots of different rooms, its a bit of a maze, but it never felt crowded and had quite a relaxed vibe. I think there were three kitchens and also lots of sitting areas. Bathroom was ok - not possible to have water pressure and hot water, but that's not unusual! Wifi worked well and staff were friendly and helpful.
