This place was great! After an 8 hour bus ride, I couldn't be happier to step in here to lots of welcome and great accommodations. Having been in the jungle for weeks, it was my first hot shower in a long time. There was a good vibe, lots of people taking advantage of the poolside bar and kitchen, definitely a good spot to meet people if you are a solo traveler. Kitchen facilities looked great, I had a filling breakfast for a good price at the restaurant and free am coffee was a bonus!

My shared room was very spacious, with plenty of room to place your luggage as well as having a locker and some shelves for storage. Staff was attentive and available around the clock. Really appreciated the free morning coffee service! Best hostel I've stayed in. A+++++

The staff was very kind and extremely helpful. The beds are actually very comfortable. Next time I'm passing through San Jose, I'd definitely stay here again.

Decent hostel. The kitchen was nice and big but was often cluttered with lazy people's dirty dishes and food. The location was good to walk to central ave but the train early in the morning is pretty loud if you are trying to sleep in. Internet worked well in the common area but not in the room.

Wifi works everywhere in the hostel. If you have a problem tell the receptionist and he will reset the modem so it will work immediately. ;-)

I am just learning about hostels....more of us elderly could travel more if we had been informed....what a treat to be in a clean, comfortable hostel with many diverse young people and be treated as if I were special....Love the attention given to details like immaculately clean bedding and bathrooms....

For a hostel the Costa Rica Backpackers is a quite nice place to stay. The staff were very helpful and you have all the facilities like Wi-Fi, Computers, more or less hot showers and a kitchen with a fridge and cooking facilities. The knives are not very sharp but okay for cutting most fruit and vegetables. There are lockers in every room but they are quite small. However, it was just big enough for my notebook to fit in, so I was happy with it :)The hostel is a good place for meeting nice peop

I stayed here a night waiting for a flight out of San Jose, and was very pleased. The hostel basically have everything, food, a bar, a pool, so I dont have to set a foot outside the hostel if you don't want to. They also have airport transport, and the staff is very friendly, helping you with whatever you need. I would stay here again.

Pourquoi un dortoir pour ceux qui réserve par internet.....on est des deuxième classe ou quoi? Ou c,est l,auberge qui es de deuxième lasse avec ces trains qui sifflent à partir de 5 hres du matin ?

Owner Comment (Show)
Nous avons des dortoirs specialement dedies aux reservations afin de vous garantir celles ci, ils sont identiques a tous les autres dortoirs. Le train passe 4 fois par jour derriere l hotel, chaque passage dure moins d une minute.

The main area is nice but the dorm I was in...not so much. Cockroaches and gross mattresses. Was ichy all night. Computers could use a bit of an update. Having a tourism desk on property was very handy.

We found the beds were very hard and the train that passed by every 20 minutes and honked its horn from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. very annoying.

Garden and pool are really nice, free internet and the movie area are good too, and I like the fact they have a kitchen to make your own stuff. But the bedrooms really aren't that great, mattress must've been a million years old and since the hostel is next to a loud bar, it didn't make for a great nights sleep. It's a cheap place to stay and hangout while you wait for your flight out of SJO, but I doubt I'd stay there longer than than.

I only stayed for one night. The place looks good. My friends and I stayed at a 10 bed room with strangers and people were noisy, but I guess that's normal?

The person helping booking tours was very helpful, but the rest of the staff wasn´t very friendly or as helpful as in other hostels I stayed at in Costa Rica....

It was good for a night before heading out to new places. But I guess it would be a good day to even stay for a few days. Nice common areas and possibilities to hang at the pool. My mattress wasn't too comfy and it was rather noisy during the evening.

This hostle has a great set up. You have hammocks, a bar, a pool, plenty of computers, and an overall affordable room. I stayed here both when I flew into San Jose and when I flew out and both times were good. The only complaint I can think of is sometimes it's very loud at nights between the guests and the train. Other than that it was great.
