I very much enjoyed my stay at Backpackers in San Jose. It felt like my home base while in Costa Rica. I would certainly recommend this hostel over any other to a fellow backpacker on a budget.

I have stayed at this hostel for one night. I think it is a good starting point when you come to Costa Rica. I'd recommend it.

this was a really fun hostel to stay at my first night in costa rica. a little out of the way of the rest of the city, but nice beds, clean rooms, a VERY helpful and friendly staff, and pretty good food at the restaurant (though overpriced).

I loved my stay at this hostel. Well designed, nice atmosphere. The guy that helps for the tours and activities is very kind. I'd go back there anytime. Nice pool, a lot of hammocs and always great people to meet. There's a good restaurant not that expansive. There actually is hot water in the showers. Walkable distance to everything there is to see in San Jose. The only negative point are the fridges that are not very cold (impossible to keep milk or meat in there) and not clean.

This place was great! After an 8 hour bus ride, I couldn't be happier to step in here to lots of welcome and great accommodations. Having been in the jungle for weeks, it was my first hot shower in a long time. There was a good vibe, lots of people taking advantage of the poolside bar and kitchen, definitely a good spot to meet people if you are a solo traveler. Kitchen facilities looked great, I had a filling breakfast for a good price at the restaurant and free am coffee was a bonus!

My shared room was very spacious, with plenty of room to place your luggage as well as having a locker and some shelves for storage. Staff was attentive and available around the clock. Really appreciated the free morning coffee service! Best hostel I've stayed in. A+++++

The staff was very kind and extremely helpful. The beds are actually very comfortable. Next time I'm passing through San Jose, I'd definitely stay here again.

Decent hostel. The kitchen was nice and big but was often cluttered with lazy people's dirty dishes and food. The location was good to walk to central ave but the train early in the morning is pretty loud if you are trying to sleep in. Internet worked well in the common area but not in the room.

Wifi works everywhere in the hostel. If you have a problem tell the receptionist and he will reset the modem so it will work immediately. ;-)

I am just learning about hostels....more of us elderly could travel more if we had been informed....what a treat to be in a clean, comfortable hostel with many diverse young people and be treated as if I were special....Love the attention given to details like immaculately clean bedding and bathrooms....

For a hostel the Costa Rica Backpackers is a quite nice place to stay. The staff were very helpful and you have all the facilities like Wi-Fi, Computers, more or less hot showers and a kitchen with a fridge and cooking facilities. The knives are not very sharp but okay for cutting most fruit and vegetables. There are lockers in every room but they are quite small. However, it was just big enough for my notebook to fit in, so I was happy with it :)The hostel is a good place for meeting nice peop

I stayed here a night waiting for a flight out of San Jose, and was very pleased. The hostel basically have everything, food, a bar, a pool, so I dont have to set a foot outside the hostel if you don't want to. They also have airport transport, and the staff is very friendly, helping you with whatever you need. I would stay here again.

The main area is nice but the dorm I was in...not so much. Cockroaches and gross mattresses. Was ichy all night. Computers could use a bit of an update. Having a tourism desk on property was very handy.

We found the beds were very hard and the train that passed by every 20 minutes and honked its horn from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. very annoying.

Garden and pool are really nice, free internet and the movie area are good too, and I like the fact they have a kitchen to make your own stuff. But the bedrooms really aren't that great, mattress must've been a million years old and since the hostel is next to a loud bar, it didn't make for a great nights sleep. It's a cheap place to stay and hangout while you wait for your flight out of SJO, but I doubt I'd stay there longer than than.

I only stayed for one night. The place looks good. My friends and I stayed at a 10 bed room with strangers and people were noisy, but I guess that's normal?
