The place was freezing, windows were broken and radiators didn't work. The next evening we asked for an extra blanket because of the ridiculous temperatures, we were not given one. It was so cold that I actually couldn't sleep, facilities were adequate but not clean and of 2 showers for 4 6bed rooms, only one worked. The bed had hairs and dirt in it when I arrived and had to ask reception for new sheets.

I battled about the rating I gave staff because I did meet two extremely helpful individuals but based on the contact I received from Patricia, which was not polite, helpful or understanding I had to average out the rating at poor. I have stayed at Cowgate Tourist Hostel over three times now, each time bringing a group of students as I have always been impressed in the past. However I feel management devalued me as a customer because of my age on this occassion.

Good location although heating did not work. Couldn't use wifi after reception was closed. Accommodation in separate apartments which was unusual but not a bad thing. Good kitchen facilities.

The hostel was very good value for money and staff were fine, there wasn't a fixed time to close daily. We felt a bit down in few things like, the toilet without a hanger to put the clothes instead of the toilet seat; no phone signal in the bedroom; no living room or a place to rest and watch some TV.

Tidy sheets should be provided for all your customers. Also, the kitchen was horrendous. I didn't even want to touch a knife or a fork or cook in in one of the pans. Furthermore, the wall in the bathroom upstairs was sticky. It was simply gross.

The kitchen is very poor with almost no pans to cook and was very dirty, no internet service in the rooms, really cold place, the windows are very old and let the cold air in, the mattress was really old and bad, in the middle of the night there where 2 guys coming into the room with the keys and saying they rented the same room, the price was really hight for this kind of service, my advice is to lower the prices and improve some of these points.

Rated the hostel as average but value for money for a budget hostel. Facilities considered adequate. However the toilet is not so well maintained with broken shower head. The heater temperature too low to warm the room. Fairly noisy from inside and outside hostel.
