We were not too happy with the moist in the rooms as it could be very cold at some points. We thought that there could have been a little better cleaning on the toilets and showers as they were not always good looking and clean. However staff were friendly and helpful and any problems we reports were taken care off.

Reception should have two people working together instead of one. It took me 35 minutes waiting to check-in. Stop asking a deposit could be very nice and welcoming to guests.

Hi Giuseppe. I'm sorry that you had to wait so long to be checked it. Unfortunately even though there weren't a large number of people booked for that day, they all seemed to arrive at the same time. All hostels charge a deposit as unlike hotels, when a guest goes out they keep the key with them rather than leaving it at the hostel/hotel and it can be very expensive to replace keys if someone leaves without returning them. Regardless, I hope you had a great stay in Edinburgh.

Location Location Location, and helfull staff.

It's really a good place to stay, the staff members are very friendly and warm. The hostel is clean and tidy. It was so good to stay there. Could be better if there are some drinks in each flat like tea and coffee.

Thank you very much for taking time to review our hostel. All our guests are very welcome to come and enjoy free coffee and tea at the reception area and have a chat with our friendly staff and other guests.

Had stuff stolen from my room. Another person down the hall had stuff stolen from them. A couple was complaining to management when I checked out about things being stolen from them. There are no lockers in the rooms and is kind of a lower quality neighborhood. The heater didn't work in the my room. Of the two showers, one shower had no heat (which someone was fixing the next day supposedly), the other one got warmish. This place just isn't worth it!

perfect atmosphere

The hostel was really okay, although it can be loud due to a big pub in the street (especially at the weekends). but for a short weekend in Edinburgh it was perfect :)

Location was just alright. Staff wasn't too friendly or helpful. The bathroom door was broken and the shower itself didn't stay at a constant temperature. The kitchen had a mouse it. I wouldn't reccomend this to anyone.

Good Location in the city centre, but very moldy, smelly air, dark walls in the bathroom. Facilities didn't look very clean, beds were damaged. No lockers available.

It's located just from a short walk of the castle and main streets. Rooms are big enough for the people inside. Bathrooms need reparations and better cleanes.

The bathroom was very dirty. The toilet was blocked. They had a sign that it was not allowed to put toilet paper in the toilet. Im well travelled and always stated in hostels. This is the first hostel i would not recommend.

Great location. Hostel dorms situated in individual apartments, each with its own kitchen it seems. Wifi works well.

Good hostel in very nice location. Facilities average in general with one shower room having smelly mould. That should be improved especially regarding the health effects.

Amazing !! The perfect Hostel in my opinion.

I stayed 5 nights at Cowgate and enjoyed my stay. The Hostel is very central in the old city. This is more a working/long stay hostel and I was the only tourist in my room/ on my level. The room was quite big and the facitlities were mostly clean! All in all good value for money!

The staff was very friendly and willing to help! The rooms are a bit sad and there are no locks to secure your personal items.

Compared to ohter hostels along Scotland, including one in Edinburgh a few days before, this one was not so appealing

The bed sheets did not cover the mattress properly and the bedding was very uncomfortable. The kitchen was not cleaned while we were there, there was rotting food on the bench, table and in the fridge.

Close to city centre and old town. The room and shared facility is tidy. The bed is not so stable, and chargers are not enough for four guests. A club is located at the opposite, so it will be noisy in the night.
