Would have liked a newer mattress but overall was impressed with the ambiance and uniqueness of the hotel. Heat was the perfect temperature. Loved the balcony. Showers and toilets very clean.

A lovely hostel with lovely art deco features. They give you free breakfast and a little bit of free wifi (although it didn't work for us). The hostel was in a good location and staff were friendly and told us about places to go etc. Bathrooms weren't brilliant, and as they were unisex toilets and showers, I felt there was just no privacy. Apart from that, a good hostel.

Stayed one night in Napier in a double room...the room was nice - basic, but nice enough, and had a sink in the room, which was very handy. The bathrooms were clean and the showers nice, so that was good. The kitchen is well stocked and breakfast is available in the morning, which is a really nice touch! The hostel itself was quite shabby...but clean enough and comfortable, so it's a good place to stay. It's also in a good location.

Found it strange that free Wifi was advertised through the cafe/bar next door when the place looked like it had been closed for a number of months. It shouldn't still be being offered on the websites etc to avoid confusion.

Great hostel in every way except for the receptionist that checked us in. Upon check-in, he, the receptionist, made a remark that caused a completely unnecessary confrontation. I have managed a hostel for 3 years and diplomacy and customer service is always the utmost priority. This man displayed none of these aforementioned attributes. Don't let this deter you from staying here though, it is a really cool backpackers.

Really enjoyed my stay. Bathrooms and kitchen very clean, great relaxed atmosphere. The location is excellent. There was a free breakfast of cereal, toast and tinned fruit which was a nice extra. Limited free WiFi which was slow at times. Would definitely stay again if I return to Napier.

Nice friendly hostel in Napier with very large common areas. Good facilities and centrally located. Laundry doesn't do a very good job however. Otherwise highly recommended.

I really enjoyed my night here. The lovely old building had some great Art Deco features, and was very conveniently situated for someone on foot. The room and other facilities were clean and perfectly adequate, and the manager was very helpful in telling me what I could see in Napie in my short stay.

yeah, it was an okay place to stay. the staff are alright. one of them told me i was using too much onion in my dinner. ÿou made a mistake,"he says." it was okay, though. sort of a funny place. does look like the shining, but not creepy like it.

The shared bathroom was unisex which may be odd for some. Sleeping areas were generally pretty quiet when we were there. Room was hot at night (no aircon). Spacious 1930's hotel interiors. Good Kitchen facilities apart from gas cookers, the knobs are worn so cant tell if they are on or off. Our room was opposite an Irish pub so very noisy on a saturday night. Great central location.

The common room looks more like a cathedral or church rather than a backpacker. My dorm is good but need more plug inside. I love the mysterious atmosphere of the common room and the balcony with the view to beach and Emerson road. The kitchen is well-equipped, just love it :) Location is definitely good, at the center :).
