This was a good little hostel. It has a great central location and being in the art deco style it also fits into the character of the city. The staff were not particularly helpful but they weren't bad either. Good showers, the beds weren't the comfiest.

A bit like a dowdy hotel, but a good central location, reasonably priced and sized rooms. Showers were hot, kitchen largeish, free continental breakfast, free 50MB of internet per person, large common areas - all in all, a pretty decent place to stay with some art deco character.

Had a lovely stay on the way through and back on our trip to Gisbourne from Wellington - we found it very comfortable and easy to live in for the night.

Great place to stay. LOVED the free breakfast. Only bad thing was that the toilets and showers were unisex.

Nice open communal space. Bed was comfy but a little difficult to get up to the very high top bunk! Complimentary breakfast very welcome and nice not to have just plain toast.

Cheap bike rentals at $8/$15 but only 2 available. Free 50MB Zenbu internet. $4 for Washer or Dryer Opinion: Stayed here twice, two nights each time. LOVE the Deco, fantastically helpful staff and decor. A 10-15 minute walk from the Pak'n'Save or Countdown. However, the Criterion bar downstairs can be loud at night if the window is left open.

being three elderly people we thought it would be noisy due to the amount of young people there at the time, but it was'nt.the noise control was very good and the continental breakfast was excellent.
